August's supermoon blue moon.
A blue moon happens when there are two full moon's in the same month, it does not refer to the color of the moon. A supermoon happens when the moon's orbit is closest to the earth, making it appear larger.
'Sturgeon' is the name historically given by Native Americans to the full August moon. It was called that because sturgeon was most easily caught in the Great Lakes at this time of summer. This fish was important to Native American tribes, who relied on sturgeon for winter food resources.
My kids got some great moon photos of the moon rising out of Lake Michigan.
These are mobile phone photos taken by my son with a Google Pixel phone.
The structure you see out on the lake is one of the water cribs built in the 1800's to house and protect offshore water intakes used to supply the City of Chicago and 118 suburbs with drinking water from Lake Michigan.

My daughter-in-law carried her camera gear to the lake shore, but was disappointed with the images she captured.
My daughter took these photos of the moon over a Wisconsin soybean field with her Pixel phone.
The next blue moon will be in May of 2026.

Really cool pictures, I totally forgot about it happening. Even if I was outside my cell phone would have caught horrible photos, hehe
Even though I have the same phone, I am not nearly as proficient with taking photos with it as my kids are!
I fall into that category especially in the dark I just don't always understand the technology or just don't always have an act for it. Generations after us grew up taking pictures with their phones. It was maybe 10 years ago when I finally got a smart phone, hehe.
I just enjoy taking photos with my Canon camera and have not learned the settings available on my phone camera.
I so need to purchase a good camera someday 😊

Yes. The second one in the same month is called a Blue Moon. It occurs infrequently.
Look at that magnificent Orb rising from beyond the horizon! Look at its beautiful flaming colours. This is indeed a Super Blue Moon.

Interesting how the phone took as good of photos as a nice camera. I have tried to take moon photos with my phone when it was beautiful and bright, but my phone doesn't really handle the BRIGHT light in the dark, so they are never good.
