Icicles Are Gone but Coldness Is Still Here
These thick big icicles are finally gone but the temperature is still around -7 to -10. The day before yesterday's coldest temperature was -15 degrees. Hmm... it's cold. I need spring weather soon.
However, I noticed the snow quality has been changed. This sign is a small spring in the snow countries. The packed hard snow became very solid. I can walk in the snow easily instead of sinking. This phenomenon is very interesting. The snow was not hard like this early winter. The snow melted again and again until it totally became solid and smooth. When you step on it, you feel firm. I have the confidence to walk on the hard snow. I feel like I am floating in the air or I lost my gravity.
Whenever I walk on this type of hard snow, I hear "Crunchy Crunchy." In Japanese, 'Zaku Zaku." I always remember the famous sentences from the short novel, ' Yukiwatari (Snow Crossing), written by Kenji Miyazawa.
“Katayuki Kanko, Shimiyuki Shinko.”
(hard snow, frozen snow) by Kenji Miyazawa
I often sing this pretty song when I walk on the hard snow with my dog. My dog loves to walk on the packed thick snow as well.
Almost all the ice has melted, but the temperature is still cold.
These are melting icicles. I love to hear the sound of them melting and dropping from the roof. The sound is like music. The melody of icicles brings me joy.
I am hoping to see birds, green leaves, and a blue sky here instead of seeing the tree without leaves and cold-looking icicles.

I have read your article thoroughly I tried to translate that stanza you mentioned by Kenji Miyazawa what does Kanko mean I am curious to know it's exact meaning.
Kanko is the girl’s name in that story. The sister and brother were singing and playing with words as they walked on the hard winter snow I think.

Those icicles looks so huge and scary though. But with this kind od weather you'll have a hard time getting out on the bed (≧▽≦)
Yeah, I wanted to stay in my bed as long as I could, but my dog Dude doesn't want me to stay longer… 🤣 He wants me to feed him!
Ice or snow I do not know, can imagine when warmth arrives or gentle breeze that...,
Dog and man appear to be at one with the land they know well.

I enjoyed picking and holding icicles when I was young. They are as beautiful as shining jewelry. Yes, the dog and the man know the land very well! They are my family members. 😊
Have an awesome day, dogs love being out in any weather, good excuse for humans to accompany them.
