(ENG/ESP) Storm in Cucao hits sheep flock / Temporal en Cucao azota a rebaño de ovejas

in WE ARE MOVING3 years ago (edited)
The power of a storm is extraordinary. Some time ago, I had the opportunity to witness one of the biggest storms in Cucao. Winds of over 100 kilometers per hour were recorded. Fortunately, I was also able to capture some images during and after this phenomenon. There was a lot of wind, a lot of rain, lightning, thunder, a flock of sheep and a couple of trees with a lot of resistance to the climate of the region.

Thanks to their fur, sheep can tolerate humidity and low temperatures in winter. However, during this great storm, the noises coming from the sky disturbed them, so they began to search desperately and unsuccessfully for shelter. They moved from one side to the other without stopping, trying to flee from the enveloping sound of thunder.

After about four hours, the storm ended. Then the sheep calmed down and began to feed on the wet grass, which, by the way, had a wonderful smell. After seeing them so frightened, it was a pleasure to see them integrate into their routine and eat calmly.

Being in the midst of nature means being in constant learning. We can take every moment to analyze behaviors of the animal and plant kingdom, which would serve us in our daily lives. If only we could be like that tree that withstands hurricane winds or like that flock of sheep that overcomes the fear of the storm and continues its life as if nothing happened, without trauma, without pain, without fear. If only we could just flow.

It must've been terrifying for the sheep. But I think animals (and even plants) learn from extremely stressful situations. There was this research (bio-dome) where trees were completely sheltered under a transparent dome and they all grew weak because there were no winds to shake them and make them stronger.

Interesting research, I will look into it. It makes sense, the environment has a lot of influence on the individual. I guess that's why we exist, to resist.

Yes sheep are amazing and lovely animals. I hope the storm didn't scare them off. I like the last photo best.
