ON THE LAST DAY OF AUGUST

in WE ARE MOVING3 years ago

31st of August 2021 marked a typically hot, slightly humid end of that happy month.

(Enlargeable)

I spent most of that day on my favorite stretch of coastline ...

img_4130_malo.jpg

... situated about seven kilometers from my hometown.

img_4158_malo.jpg

The sea was blue, and so were the distant fragments of geography across the bay.

img_4140_malo.jpg

The sky was also blue.

img_4132_malo.jpg

The differences were only a matter of shades.

(Enlargeable)

Various boats were passing across the quiet seascape. I saw elegant white sailing yachts ...

img_4201_malo.jpg

... small fishing boats made to be used in the calm waters of the bay ...

img_4153_malo.jpg

... and only one speedboat of the port authorities.

img_4137_malo.jpg

A man in a relatively big small boat was cleaning some stuff and preparing the fishing nets, anchored near some rocks that appear above the surface only at low tide. The cormorants looked very interested in whatever was going on in the nearby boat.

img_4124_malo.jpg

I didn't photograph only these distant blue things on that day.

img_4212_malo.jpg

I was also interested in stuff that was going on in the grass around me ...

img_4213_malo.jpg

... and I brought the macro lens with me ...

img_4219_malo.jpg

... so I caught this Pholidoptera littoralis bush cricket ...

img_4220_malo.jpg

... well camouflaged in the dry, grassy environment.

(Enlargeable)

Here, I zoomed into the blue distance again. The main protagonist of this photograph it's the lighthouse on the shore across the bay.

img_4136_malo.jpg

This is a portrait of one of the lovely small clouds that were floating in the blue above the land and sea, and in the following photograph ...

img_4142_malo.jpg

... you can watch the same cloud dissolving.

img_4179_malo.jpg

I found this cricket on the blackberry shrubs ...

img_4173_malo.jpg

... that grow and prosper on the dusty terrain near the sea.

img_4170_malo.jpg

Pachytrachis gracilis is the name ...

img_4177_malo.jpg

... of this bush cricket species.

img_4195_malo.jpg

This dog ...

img_4196_malo.jpg

... was sniffing up and down the dusty road bordered with tall grass and thorny shrubs.

img_4123.jpg

Here you can take a look at the distant cement factory ...

img_4120_malo.jpg

... situated on the stretch of coastline across the bay.

img_4127_malo.jpg

This is a village not far from the factory.

img_4155_malo.jpg

Here you can take a look at the stretch of a very distant Dynarid mountain range.

img_4186_malo.jpg

In this photograph, the focus is again on small things found among the foliage around me.

(Enlargeable)

This minuscule spider, I don't know the exact species ...

img_4188_samo_malo.jpg

... has caught some even smaller insect or a larva. The scene was photographed on the lower surface of the blackberry leaf.

(Enlargeable)

Here you can take a look at some fluffy, shape-shifting clouds, and in the following photograph ...

img_4189_malo.jpg

... the focus is on another creature found and photographed on the blackberry shrubs - the nymph of the Anacridium aegyptium grasshopper.

img_4143_malo.jpg

Here you can see another distant stretch of coastline

img_4145_malo.jpg

The coastal rocks are pretty high in that place. High and devoid of vegetation. Maybe not completely, but if there are plants there, they are too small to be visible from my side of the bay.

img_4150_malo.jpg

Here you can see more clouds ...

img_4144_malo.jpg

... and here, you can see the edge of a distant island turn into an illusion.

img_4330_malo.jpg

Here you can see yet another cricket photographed on the blackberry shrubs.

img_4331_malo.jpg

This is the Decticus albifrons, one of the biggest bush cricket species in this area.

img_4141_malo.jpg

At one point ...

img_4163_malo.jpg

... a small fragment of rainbow appeared in the distance.

img_4156_malo.jpg

This inflatable kayak was passing by.

(Enlargeable)

The little red boat looked great in the wider blue picture.

img_4354_malo.jpg

Meanwhile, on the firm land, the young mantis was searching for something to eat ...

img_4349_malo.jpg

... and a group of cyclists was resting among the aromatic vegetation near the sea.

img_4202_malo.jpg

Sometimes the sea currents and atmospheric conditions create this interesting seascape.

img_4204_malo.jpg

The water in the bay gets separated in a pretty weird way. It's a relatively rare phenomenon here.

img_4303_malo.jpg

This is the Crithmum maritimum plant. On its minuscule flowers ...

img_4318_malo.jpg

... I photographed a pretty peculiar wasp ...

(Enlargeable)

... the Mutilla europaea. This is the male. Only males have wings.

img_9466_malo.jpg

The wingless females can be easily mistaken for ants. And in fact, they are commonly known as velvet ants.

img_4203_malo.jpg

As the lazy summer hours were passing, the early afternoon was turning into an overture for the evening, the people in the small fishing boat were patiently waiting for a big fish ...

(Enlargeable)

... and the winged, reproductive ants started swarming above the shrubs and meadows along the shore. If you enlarge this enlargeable photograph, the minuscule black dots will be visible as small winged silhouettes.

(Enlargeable)

And that's it. I didn't take any photographs later in the evening, so the post has to end here. Hope you enjoyed a breath of summer. As always in these posts on HIVE, the photographs are my work - THE END.

Well this is very much a change from the melancholic and gray skies post of yours I was just reading. This post is full of life and blue, you have such contrasting landscapes around you, and you capture the beauty of it all so well.

Such a wonderful place , seems quiete and relaxing. Thank you for sharing 🌺

This is the most amazing thing I have seen today, where is this @borjan I would love to visit some day

Istra peninsula in Croatia. The southern part of Europe.

Croatia is really nice

The surfeit of blue! And hopping insects... :)) Loved the photos!

I'm missing "the big blue". Love the photo of fishermen in small boat with all the black grebe birds around watching if he'll catch some fish. I read that this "gnjurci" birds sometimes even can attack swimmers, when they are in water.

I also heard that. But only recently. Never experienced it. :) They are no great white sharks, so - it's ok.

wow it looks very beautiful scenery That's a friend, thank you for sharing this beautiful view comrade @borjan

sunny and calm weather makes the mind will feel a little relieved

Hi @borjan ,A variated but certainly interesting post, I was struck by the birds near the man on the boat, I suppose his interest was to receive some food, you say it is August, I suppose that at the moment you enjoy a better climate, or at least better than then.
I wish you a happy start to the week

You have always good post . I,m very like all you picture and I Will seing always your post.

wow you took an amazing photography journey and the results of your photos are also very detailed

Lovely shots.
I loved it.

Beautiful images, I love the scene that takes place in that sky so blue and so clear, rarely can we delight in a sky with only one or two clouds, how nice it looks with the sea and the mountains in the background. Those crickets are huge, and they are well hidden, I like it when they sing although sometimes they are very noisy!

hi friend @borjan

the pictures of the scenery that you show are very pleasing to the eye. but after the picture of the scene you had time to insert a macro picture, this is truly extraordinary, the details look very clear.
