It's Been A While Since I Just Shot A Series Of Random Orchid Photo's ..
So here they are, a few random orchid photos But artistic ones I hope. I was admiring the blooming (and non-blooming) Orchids, resting on the half wall between our breakfast nook and the family room. I was aiming to capture a few unique black and whites as well as some sepia frames. I think I got a few, and will let you decide how lovely they are.
Sepia
So let's start off with the sepia shots.. I was going to show you the raw unedited versions first, but then decide against it. I instead decided to go right to the good stuff. I love the way these sepia photo's turned out. Some grainy, and others crisp and clean. Sepia always adds an element of mystery or a sense of illusion to photographs. At least in my opinion it does.
This first shot feels like one of those 'Old Time' photos. It just has a nice old antique feel to it that appeals to me. This Phalaenopsis Orchid is not in bloom, but that doesn't mean it is not photo worthy.
This next shot is of a blooming Phal Orchid. I used a short depth of field and was a bit off focus, but not super noticeable. I'm not entering this into any photo contests, so I am not worried about my short fallings.
Here (below) you can see a bit of that cool graininess I was talking about earlier. This style is not for everyone, but it does appeal to my senses when used in black and white or sepia edits. The depth of field (what is in focus and what is not) on this one is pretty tight too. As you may see the flower just behind these front ones, is well out of focus.
Nothing too special about this next photo. Just a nice dark, up close shot of the orchid blooms. The clip and the winding bloom stem is sort of cool. Something else, another element, to look at instead of just blooms, but the eye may not pick that kind of stuff up right away.
Black & White
I have to include a few Black and White shots. I just can't help myself. There is just something about stripping all of the color out of a photo, leaving the imagination responsible of filling in the blanks. I'm not going to go crazy on the explanations of these, but rather let you simply enjoy them for what they are.
These shots are pretty much the same as the ones above, but colorless. There are two styles here, one that is sort of washed out and another where I really darkened the backgrounds to deep black. Which is your favorite style?
Color
And now for the colored shots. I'll give you the edited, blacked out versions first. I darkened the backgrounds so that the flowers/plant subject matter would take center stage. Not sure if I LOVE these, but I do like them.
I can't NOT show you the original photo's. So here they are. Not bad by themselves, but the edits are SO MUCH better.
PHOTO TIP - I used a black piece of scrap, black hardboard and placed it behind the subjects so that the backgrounds (of some photos) were nice and black. This is a nice way to isolate your subject and can even work outdoors if needed, where things can get pretty cluttered or busy.
So What Did You Think?
Any winners in the bunch? Did you decide on a favorite style? Well, it's no secret that I prefer the Sepia collection. Curious to what you think.

Most welcome @bdmillergallery.
Have a great day. 😊
Hi, friend @bdmillergallery
Your orchid photographs are fascinating.
The filters and effects you used really bring out the beauty of the flowers.
But, the photo that melted my heart is the one of the little dog looking out the window.
I love dogs, and that one is a sweetheart.
Have a Big Hug
Aaawww.. Thank you 😊 Molly (our ShihTzu) is such a cutie and our baby. We just can't get enough of her and wish she would live to be 100. But she is an old lady now and will be 14 soon. She doesn't like the camera that much, but on occasion I get a good shot of her like that one above. Thank you for noticing it and commenting on it 😁
These pictures are like a time travel experiment. Sepia pictures always bring me to the 1920's and 30's, then the black and white reminded me of 1950's and 60's horror flicks. The colour finally brought us into the 1970's and beyond. Very fun!
Man, You are spot on with the descriptions! You should write my posts 😁 hehe. All joking aside, that IS exactly how it feels. And YES! VERY FUN!!! But you already know this very well. lol
I really like the sepia ones. I dig how that maroon in the background works with this sepia tones of the flower itself. Cool stuff. I really need to spend some time focusing on editing photos. Usually I just take them and then throw them on here because they are more of a compliment to my words as opposed to being the star of the post. Great stuff here!
Sometimes I question the amount of time I put into edits and writing style, when there are very few who care.. then I remember that I am doing this for myself more than anything else, so to slack on something that is important to me, wouldn't be right. It's one of those weird mental battles we all go through I think. One day I would like to attempt a larger writing project, but first have to practice practice practice.. then make a go at it. I have SO MUCH to learn yet.
Thanks for the compliments.. like art and writing, photography is also subjective and not always considered as awesome as we think it is. After all the viewer is allowed their own opinion. lol. I just have fun (as I know you do to) taking a few shots and sharing them. 😁
Happy Hump Day!
Yeah, if it weren't for some of my autovotes that I get I have a feeling my posts wouldn't be making too much either. Even less people would read them than already do. Before HIVE I always thought about writing a blog, but I figured no one really cared about what I had to say. I'm glad that I started doing this and I have come to realize that I do it for me more than I do for other people to read it. That is always a nice benefit though!
The Hive incentive is nice for sure. I would be lost and uninteresting in any other venue 😆
Keep up the good work Bozz man.. We will one day be rewarded for our efforts! Hopefully 🤑
