ENGLISH
  • "Look over there!"
  • "Where?" clueless.
  • "There!"
  • "I don't see anything," leaning forward a little more.
  • "You don't see it?"
  • "What thing?" already thinking they're pulling my leg.
  • "The snake!"
  • "Where?!" as I jump in fright.

That was part of the dialogue before I started shooting my camera. We were walking down the street in an arid place, with high temperatures, and one of the companions told me what was described above in order for me to photograph the little reptile. It was difficult to distinguish it slithering through the barbed wire. Besides, its color blended in with the barren background. Pardon the ladies for my color selection, but everything had a sort of brownish tone to it. It was by distinguishing her that I was also able to help the camera spot her.

Her face is nicely outlined with other lighter shades. Her eyes are striking, because they have another very contrasting tone. She seemed to run away from us, while sticking out her tongue. I understand they do it to measure the humidity in the environment, but I'm not sure. Of course, I took the shots quickly, I could barely frame and focus, because she was moving fast.

It made me laugh because some people who accompanied me told me not to get so close because it could be dangerous, it could even jump on me. And well, between fear and skepticism I took these pictures. You will be happy to know that I survived.

When we asked the local people and showed them the photos, they told us that they called the snake "Bejuca", and that it was not dangerous, it was not poisonous. But how was I supposed to know?! We still had to take our precautions.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know this Bejuca from the comfort of your device.

Photos are my own, taken with my Canon EOS Rebel t3i phone.

See you next time
