After a sunny day at the beach, there's nothing better than changing the scenery and heading off on an adventure in the mountains.
The destination? Snowy Valley!
Even out of season, we were told that there is always a little snow there, so let's go!

We leave Santiago early in the morning and take the famous road Camino a Farellones, which leads to Vale Nevado.
This road already has a reputation in winter, when the sharp curves and snow turn the journey into a real adventure!
The scenery starts to get wilder as we climb, revealing immense mountains and more desert vegetation and deep valleys.
And then a sign appears: Mirador 3 Valles.
I think it's time for a strategic stop to see the landscape and stretch your legs.
We got out of the car, and walking there we soon saw another sign: A trail!!!
“Trilha dos 3 Vales - medium difficulty, 2km.” The altitude was starting to get worse, but we continued, and were soon rewarded with one of the most incredible views: three immense valleys opening up before our eyes that it even looks like a painting.

After this break, which without waiting long we had much more, we returned to the car, ready to face more curves and the altitude that only increased.
There are around 60 sharp curves to the top, which goes to more than 3,000 meters.
In winter, it is mandatory to drive with wheel chains to avoid slipping in the snow, well I don't think we will need it...
At each turn, the landscape changes... after leaving the more urban area and passing through small mountain villages.

A little further and we arrive at our destination, one of the main ski resorts in South America, located at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
Its name doesn't lie: it's snow all year round, or at least a promise of snow, as we were about to discover.
We have arrived!

A viagem logo cedo saindo de Santiago e vamos pegar a famosa estrada Camino a Farellones, que leva até o Vale Nevado.
Essa estrada já tem uma reputação no inverno, quando as curvas fechadas e a neve transformam o trajeto numa verdadeira aventura!
O cenário começa a ficar mais selvagem conforme subimos, revelando montanhas imensas e uma vegetaão mais desertica e vales profundos.
E então surge uma placa: Mirador 3 Valles.
Acho que ta na hora de uma parada estratégica para ver a paisagem e esticar as pernas.
Saímos do carro, e andando por alí logo vemos outra placa: Uma trilha!!!
“Trilha dos 3 Vales - dificuldade média, 2km.” A altitude já começa a pegar mas seguimos, e logo fomos recompensados com uma das vistas muito incríveis: três vales imensos se abrindo diante dos nossos olhos. Parecia até pintura.

Depois dessa pausa que sem esperar muito tivemos muito mais, voltamos pro carro, prontos pra encarar mais curvas e a altitude que só subia.
São por vota de umas 60 curvas acentuadas até o topo que vai para mais de 3.000 metros.
No inverno, é obrigatório dirigir com correntes nas rodas pra não escorregar na neve, bom acho que não vamos precisar...
A cada curva, a paisagem vai mudando... depois de sair da área mais urbana e passa por pequenas vilas de montanha.

Mais um pouquinho e chegamos ao destino, um dos principais resorts de esqui da América do Sul, localizado a 3.000 metros de altura.
Seu nome não mente: é neve o ano todo, ou pelo menos uma promessa de neve, como a gente tava prestes a descobrir.

Wow, what a stunning place! I guess now I have to put Chile on my list too. So do you drive throughout your travels? I was always wondering if driving through most of South America is possible and OK to do. I mean, I'm in Central America and there are places where it's not always advised to drive through, here in Mexico as well as some other places. That being said, Mexico is mostly safe, but I just won't go where locals won't even go to haha.
its always good to make a research on the roads. I travel all around brasil by car and its safe, but we always hope to do not cross with bad people.
and for sure, if locals avoid some areas, thats no reason to not do the same
Yes, I guess it's the same here in Mexico. Most roads are great, but don't go running around like a cowboy looking for adventure. My old neighbor once said that most people here are good, kind and friendly. And when you meet that one that's not so friendly, it'll be the last person you meet probably...I take that warning seriously.
I was talking to a friend here recently, who's from Veracruz. So I said to him: 'Oh, Veracruz, right next to Tabasco.' And he replied: 'Tabasco. Wow. I'm Mexican, but Tabasco scares me.' So no visit to Tabasco for me haha.
I have Brazil very high on my list of places to visit. Actually, it was my number 1 for a long time, but never had the chance. I lived in Ireland for 10 years before this, and the first street where we lived, there was one Irish family, then us (Dutch) and all the rest were Brazilian. I always got along with them really well. I loved their barbeques hahaha.
Whenever there was an issue with my house, or car, there was always someone to help me.
And later, about half my customers at work were Brazilian. So I may not have been in Brazil yet, I did feel the Brazilian hospitality many times!
Next time will be in a sunnier place haha.

yeah, here in Brazil its always good to be alert anywhere, but it`s not that crazy that TV shows.
An example is my last trip to Rio that was amazing, if you see TV, you dont go there. But i walked downtown, bikes, and everything was great experience.
And here you have lot of more places to visit, like Jericoacora, thats a bitcoin friendly small village very charming and wow! only good vibes!
You have Florianopolis, in the south, an island with amazing nature.
And you also have lot of places like Jalapão or Chapada dos Veadeiros if you are more country montains person.
I`m more a beach person, so, love to go to the beach on my travels.
Yeah, that's just it, the media and TV often blows things up big time. It's the same about Mexico. I'm in the South East of the country, and what we hear all the time is people ask if it's 'safe' with the cartels...As if every day it's like the wild west here.
I have heard about Florianopolis, and love everything I see about it so far. I had never heard of Jericoacora, but looked it up and it looks amazing.
And I've always wanted to visit Rio.
I am more of a beach person too, but I do love mountains every now and then.
I'll have to check out those places. But mountains and waterfalls is always good haha.
I don't necessarily need a beach if there's water.
I love Jeri, any time i can come back. the pictures are amazing, the vibe is indescritible!
