Well, 2026 has started with a bang!
For those who didn't recognise it in my last post, this is sarcasm. I expect 2026 to be as bad, if not worse than 2025 - and it wasn't great. But hey, here we are, another year behind, another in front - life grinds on, like a Sisyphean nightmare.
At least there were hotdogs.

We did end up dropping by the neighbour's place for a couple hours, drinking some wine with them, Smallsteps with the other kids in the wood-fired hot tub, and our dog left at home with the music on. One of the great things about Finnish homes is that they are well-insulated spaces to keep the heat in, but this also makes them quiet. So even though there were fireworks literally fifty meters from our house, they are barely heard inside - especially with some music on.
It is a different case outside.

While my wife went home to the dog, Smallsteps and I stayed a little longer so that she could dry off, as it was about -15°C (5°F) and with wet hair, even a short trip is unpleasant. But as we walked, someone had just sent off some fireworks and the smoke was still hanging in the cold air. A lot of people don't realise that when it is very cold, air quality can be quite poor, because the air doesn't move, nor does it rise. Smoke just hangs.

Since we were home by 1130, we sat around talking a little and then at midnight, looked out the window to see the fireworks going off around the neighbourhood. There were quite a lot around the place and while they slowed and the others went to bed, I was up until about 330am and could still hear them pretty regularly.
HIVE 2025 in Review
Well, not a full review, but I am stealing some numbers from @holoz0r's Report card, which was a bit of an effort, as to get the last year, I had to first grab all of the posts and have them analysed. When there are 7000+ it takes some time. When I say effort, I did nothing - just waited. Might be worth putting a "last year" option as well as the last 100 that is already there.
Overview "Highlights"

- 615 main articles, averaging 1.685 a day.
- No breaks
- 892 words average
- Over half a million words in articles
- Articles received over 18000 replies, with almost a 30 average.
What a streaker
(someone who runs naked publicly)

I ran the query in the tool before I posted yesterday, so it didn't include the last day.
- Zero breaks
- Article every day
Reduced Wordiness

- My articles are a little shorter than my overall average
- Only one post over 2000 words - weird!
Vocab Rehab

- Over half a million words, but only 14,620 unique words
(That is because I keep my life simple/stupid) - And almost 6000 words I used only once.
(Will try and get my weird word count up - but won't make a kerfuffle over it)
Actively Voiced

- Almost 88% actively voiced
- over 22 thousand sentences
- Too many filler words?
So that is one way to review the year behind, but there re many ways to look at the experience also. For me, writing has become an important part of my daily life where I am able to reflect and process experience. It helps me get my thoughts out and validate my feelings, even if I don't write directly about it. I have no idea what it would be, but I would assume that if I write 1000 words, my head likely runs through tens of thousands, or maybe even hundreds of thousands of words during that process. This means that what you see is only a fraction of what my head does, which is not surprising, but something to note, because it indicates how valuable the writing process can be for thought extraction, evaluation, and idea development. Rather than dwelling on the shit of the world, we have a brain that can process it, overcome it, and move on to a solution for something better.
And along the same train of thought, it would be interesting to consider that out of each article there are about 30 comments from users and myself, that processes thoughts also. Plus all the (few) people reading who have thoughts too, but don't comment. Collectively, there must be millions of words thought, and thousands of ideas had based on each article, and even if this is all invisible to the numbers on chain, it would have some impact on the world at large - even if minor.
So writing for me is a personal endeavour, but once I post it to the Hive chain, it becomes a community initiative and while I have no delusions of grandeur in regard to the impact it has on the world, I do hope it makes some people's lives a little better in some way, even if it is just to say to themselves;
"I'm glad I am not that loser".
So with 2025 behind and 2026 ahead, let's see if anything changes in terms of my approach to Hive, my content, or my life in general. It would be great if it really was going to be an awesome year full of fulfilled dreams, but I am not waiting with bated breath for it.
The grind of life just continues on, unabated.

And you may be rewarded.
You have a very pessimistic approach to life... and I didn't realize that last post was a sarcasm 😳
I do hope that 2026 will be a great year. Maybe we will actually see an altcoin season.
This might be the only chance at a save for the year :)
I think it's more of realism than what you call it. I don't see any benefit in being optimistic when terrible facts and realities abound with us. Happy new year.
Can't beat the processed nutrition of hotdogs. I envy you of the good insulation of your home. We heard fireworks and gunshots throughout the night once the clock struck midnight. Yes, gunshots in the air is a thing here in this country. People are fucking stupid!
YOu are so impressive with your writing. Being able to post what you do at least once, maybe even twice per day is something else. Especially having some understanding of the struggles you have. I always look forward to you posts and hope you can keep up the momentum.
Sounds like something that would happen in the middle east...
I hope you will join me! (and more would join too) :)
I will look to join when my schedule allows and will look forward to it.
We were in bed well before midnight, but then our neighbor decided to set off some mortars at midnight, so that woke us up. I don't think any amount of insulation will make a difference when they are going off about 100 feet from your house!
The insulation is pretty good here - the biggest thing that makes the difference is that we have triple glazed windows with vacuum gaps. They are pretty good.
We have needed new windows for quite some time now, but I haven't been able to justify having to finance them when I am not sure we are going to stay in this house long term.
It was quite begining of the year. The last night ride, was too much for me...until i sat near the fire for few hours. ..you are awesome with the numbers and I think it is same since few years.... 🎉🎊🔥
Did you toast some marshmallows?
nope....i had some fresh Potatoes baked in the fire.....
If only our politicians can keep their promises like you keep a streak on hive... society would be a much better place. Maybe they should come to learn at your feet so 2026 would be a much better year for us humans.
I admire, deeply, your consistency in this space, despite setbacks like your health and family challenges, you've managed to keep the candle burning. It's very likely, I'm sure infact, you won't miss a day in 2026. Thanks for all the value you've been providing to this platform. Once again, happy new year.
Funny, isn't it? The people we rely on, are the most unreliable.
And to you :)
Show us your money ! This is a Hive Assault. Nah, justo kidding. Everybody has show his rewards and HP, and You just put other stastics. It's like in web2, where people show just their achievements but the hard work is forgotten
Hey, I powered up about 400K in 2025 - lost about 50% of the value too :)
January 1st. The first day of the year. Everything is as usual. I'm writing my first comment this year on your post. Life goes on.
And I stopped selling HIVE. My KE is 1.0, and from now on, I'm turning on organic HP growth.
Indeed it does.
What is your KE across all your accounts, have you ever checked?
I've always written little, but I think I earned 300 HIVE. Plus the curator's bonus.
Your writing starts as something personal but turns into something shared. Even if it feels small, these posts create space for others to think, reflect, or just feel less alone. That kind of impact doesn’t show up in stats, but it’s real.
This really captures how life doesn’t reset just because the calendar does. I like the honesty here, no fake optimism, just showing up and doing the work anyway. You talked about writing being a way to process the chaos really resonated with me. Sometimes putting words down is the only way to keep moving forward.
I pray that you have a better year this year than last year. But sometimes our assumptions are wrong and I hope you will be wrong too and your time will be better this year than last year. However, two days ago, due to the death of our country's former first female Prime Minister, a three-day state mourning was declared here, due to which all activities such as New Year celebrations, fireworks or DJ songs have been banned. So, the New Year had to be celebrated normally.
I wish we had that kind of insulation here. It would probably be too warm since I live in a tropical country, but I really love how quiet it makes the space. It’s such a big help for homeowners with dogs.
Here in my area, fireworks and firecrackers start as early as 6 PM, so New Year’s Eve can be really stressful for pets. That’s why a lot of dog owners choose to stay in hotels with their pets just to get some peace and quiet. For our family, we decided to try dog ear muffs. It helped our Jack Russell Terrier a lot, but my Shih Tzus were surprisingly brave! They even sat by the balcony watching the fireworks 😁
Those warm moments spent with friends in a cozy hot tub are what motivate us. Here's to discovering happiness in the small things, that is my way too ;)
Talk about consistency, well done! Hope 2026 surprises you in a good way. Happy New Year!!
A another year and the gift of life keeps on giving!
Quite a remarkable feat really considering what you have gone through this year and highlights even when things are against you one can still find time for posting. Happy New Year to the Taraz family and lets hope this year is a miraculously good year as miracles can happen.
Ah, I always get excited about the new year. I mean it's just a marker, completely arbitary, but I always feel joy. Something is going to happen. I don't know what, but it will, and always does. I always ring the new year in with the bells of Big Ben - 11 hours after our own, but since we don't stay up past 10 am, the northern hemisphere's fireworks are good enough for us. I think I get teary at the possibility, you know?
But, there's moments where I just think, welllllp, another year closer to death...
