Late night posting is a bit like writing drunk - not all the faculties are there, but the mind might be a bit more free, a little more unfiltered. I tend to rant and ramble more in the late night, and that is saying something. However, most of my posts have been done in the late night, because that is when I usually have some time to sit and write without interruption.
Our surroundings affect us in so many different ways and we don't recognize most of the influences they have, because we aren't really paying that much attention. It is a bit like macro photography in a sense that while focusing on the minutiae, the rest of the world is missed, except we are focusing on the rest of the world, not the minutiae that are nudging us this way and that.
We might see the big things, but miss the thousand small things that compound to multiply the effects. This of course works in both directions, with a lot of unnoticed positives helping us on the way, or a lot of missed negatives holding us back, sliding us down and over that edge into the abyss.
We consistently overweigh the large events we notice, and underestimate the impacts of the small that we don't, because that is just the way the brain works. If we aren't even aware of all the influencing factors, how can we attribute the affect they will have, or the causes of our outcomes? We can only intentionally only process what we are conscious of, but that doesn't mean that we aren't processing in the background.
There is a plethora of things going on in the brain and body that we just have no idea about in the moment, but will fundamentally affect us and the decisions we make. There are obvious things like if we are hungry, sick, tired, or drunk that we might be able to understand quite easily and maybe even allow for to some degree. Yet, there are millions of factors that will also impact on us, like our hormones in the moment, whether we are feeling confident or not, what clothes we are wearing, what the temperature is, if we are slightly cold or warm, or the myriad variations in emotion that we can never fully recognize.
Man is a universe within himself.
And like all universes, there are systems, suns and planets that are unknown and unexplored, yet are there, spinning through space, causing all kinds of effects on other bodies in the system. There are also blackholes that trap pieces of us, and will never let them go, and unknown forces and gravities that are pulling and pushing us with invisible hands. Well, invisible to us.
How can we "know ourselves" as well as some people claim, when we don't know all the things that affect us, nor how they affect us. How can we know ourselves when the conditions we are within are also unknown, and we have no idea how the known pieces, let alone the unknown pieces are going to react?
But, even though life is full of ambiguity, there are some things we do know affect us heavily, like the food we eat, the people we surround ourselves with, the content we consume, and where we choose to put our attention, our energy, our thoughts and our actions.
We might only be able to intentionally affect a tiny sliver of all the variables, and that might just be enough to be the difference between the experience of life feeling self-directed, or without agency. I feel that we are too often disenfranchising ourselves by removing our own accountability and agency over our behavior, and what we end up being is weightless and invisible in our own universe.

I was thinking of something similar, but a bit more morbid. Like with every person that dies, one entire universe die, everything that that person witnessed, learned, experienced, everything will be lost forever.
It is this fear of death that makes us want to create something lasting, isn't it? We want to be remembered, make a print in the sand, but ultimately, the next wave will come and wash it back into the sea.
That is true.
That is true.
This is an interesting thought process. When man is related to the universe, it is usually how small and insignificant we are, and how what we do in our lifetimes barely affects the course of the universe. Your reflection reflection reminded me of the butterfly effect, and how even the little things can affect a lot. Focusing on ourselves, and our immediate surroundings can affect them, and this can ripple out to others and can maybe affect more than we expect.
Butterfly affect creates storms from wings - but I wonder what action is required to go the other way and create peace?
Now that is an interesting thing to think about. I think your question is rhetorical, but just for the fun of it, if you want to go symbolic maybe a dove, or a caterpillar if you want to be funny.
Being able to step back or almost outside of ourselves to recognize what we are feeling, thinking, experiencing in an analytical manner is what I consider to be part of our emotional intelligence.
It's easier to react and think and feel in the moment. It's an entirely other thing to have perspective and maturity to understand there is a whole lot more going on than what is on the surface.
Thanks for the insightful post.
We can't stop having the feelings that react to stimuli, but we can learn how to catch them before we react to the feelings and see if they are valid or not. The last few decades though, we have been encouraged to be reactive, not proactive.
These turbulent times definitely require some perspective, emotional intelligence, and a calming spirit. I also think a little prayer is helpful.
I like to read about something mysterious at night. My intuition works better at night. In the morning I look at life more soberly.
As they say, in the light of day, things look different. Like after a drunken one-night stand.
Pretty deep analogy with the universe brother. I always did see similarities between ourselves and the way the universe works. The part about black holes is my favorite, you nailed the point. It takes everything that comes to it and that's what seems to be happening to some parts of our inner self. Way too many things influence us and I sometimes find it difficult to not fall for the influence to be honest.
I would not speak for every human but with the little things I have noticed, a lot of humans act impulsively. A lot of us don’t ever maybe get to take sometime to think or take not of what influences some particular behaviors we portray. It may be internal factors like the hormones that you have mentioned.
It’s always very hard to stay away from being influenced due to those things.
Talking to our inner selves at times is good to help us reflect on the things that happens in the outer world too

I think a lot of human beings are lazy to reflect on what they do and what prompts those actions. I don’t get to do this too because of laziness and that’s why we sometime act weird and if we are being asked why we did that, we may not be able to give a simple explanation since we don’t even know what prompted the actions like our brain, hormones or some sense organs…
