Weekend most times for me is a mini holiday, if I did not travel, I go to church early on Saturdays for cleaning, after which I do my chores and on Sunday, I go to church for service. Today being a Saturday I went for cleaning and we had to wait for the church to be opened. After some minutes it was opened and we started cleaning. We were short of helpers because women are having a program in another province so many of them couldn't come.

By the time we started we were just three women and the place was big. Not quite long the men leader arrived and told us that they were having a program too in the church so we should be fast with the cleaning. We decided to share the responsibilities among us but it was still not adequate enough. We have men coming around but none of them thought of joining us to make the work faster. I was exhausted while rushing to make the work faster.
Not quite long a short man came for the program, I'm not sure he is from our parish but this man was different. Immediately he saw us working and how other men were shouting at us to be fast, he went and got a mopping stick to join us. I was so happy.
As I lifted my head up to stretch my back I saw that other men too have joined and in less than five minutes we cleaned the whole place.
The lessons for this incident include:
COLLABORATION: collaboration is the coming together of people to achieve a task. Collaboration breeds excellence, speed and increase. When the men stood up to assist us in cleaning we were able to finish on time, it reduced our stress and also they too were able to start their program early. Wherever we find people performing a task let's make ourself available by assist them to achieve a set goal. Through collaboration great things are doing and relationship are build.
BE THE CHANGE: There are anomalies in our culture and traditions, there are somethings that should be changed. Once we noticed something is not right and it is in our capacity to correct it, Please be the change, change the wrong norms, it might not be easy at first, people might jest of you but when they see the good work you are doing they will later bow to you.
LEARN TO ASSIST: When an opportunity to assist comes please let drop our ego and do the needful as a husband, as a business partner, as a father, as a leader and as a man or woman. Don't be too carried away that you'll neglect your immediate environment. Learn to give back to your environment when the need arise.
Thanks for reading my post.
You are right. Collaboration is key!
The short man did well by offering his assistance without waiting to be asked. Obviously, his proactiveness prompted the other men to join too and the work was completed in time.
If only we had more people like that in our society, progress would be much faster.
Thank you for sharing your experience, ma'am.
You have made a wonderful contribution sir, thanks for stopping by.
