Hmm I think it's mixed for me.. These days there are many "meaningful" things one could be doing on the screens, I recently got to know someone who pays a monthly subscription for an education platform and watches e-lessons on the go to pick up some skills or just a new language. From a certain angle, it's more fruitful than engaging in small talk. I guess it's about setting the boundaries, e.g. no phones during meal times, etc, that way, people can have a common understanding.
Yeah I think that's certainly an important aspect of it as well. There are plenty of good things to be done on them, but there are also lots of times where just stopping talking to someone so you can do an online lesson is a bit of an odd thing to do.
