Introvert Talks - The Statistician Who Dreamt

"Introvert Talks" is meant to be a new initiative or theme, where I myself as an introvert, just talk about reflections and thoughts about my life, or maybe share more personal stuff. :)

This is my weekly post under this "Introvert Talks" theme and let's see where it takes me and us.

Many years ago, there was a teenager who grew up realising he was always excited and intrigued about numbers. He enjoyed his Maths lessons in school and went on to study Statistics in university for his undergraduate studies. In his free time, he dreamt of becoming the best statistician in the country.

Over the years, the realities of adulthood meant finding a job and earning money to pay the bills and occasional luxuries in life. This little dream just got buried in the little corner of the teenager's (now adult) mind.

But the stresses of life over the years have never tamed his passion and flame for statistics. In this technologically advanced world, and soon to be AI era, there was never short of data to be look at. As a hobby, he would spend hours looking at data, be it financial data, prediction odds, or even number of steps clocked in a day, and put his mind to spot trends and make imaginary projections.

And one day, he realised there was something more meaningful than that "faraway" goal of being the best statistician, because that's just a title after all. Maybe he could start little projects as his hobbies using the knowledge he has, and put his textbook knowledge to test through real life application, and improve his life and perhaps the lives of people around him.

The path less travelled is always a difficult one. And sometimes a lonely one at times. But he was glad there were always people who supported his journey and understood his passion. It took many years of trial and error, and many different projects, for him to finally found some rhythm and stability.

Looking back, 2025 has been a transition and stable year of progress for him. There were no big milestones to celebrate, but he knew he made progress, and ended the year better than the end of 2024. And this made him contented, and more confident as well. Contented and confident because he has learnt a lot about himself, through self reflections, learning from mistakes and failures, learning from disappointment, and all these experiences enabled him to be stronger mentally, and to be more resilient in times of adversity, and more importantly, not forgetting to live and enjoy life to the fullest.

Looking ahead, no one knows what surprises 2026 will bring, but he is looking forward because he is ready. Are you?

Wishing whoever is reading this an early Merry Christmas too!

P.S. Have experimented with another way of writing, so I will leave you to figure out who the statistician is. :P
