Not The Same Winter

Winter is here, and it's getting shivering cold. We all were saying, “Winter is fading away, no trace of cold,” and suddenly we are freezing. 16 degrees Celsius now, at midnight it gets closer to 12, which is kinda very low for the weather pattern of our country.

The thing is, winter is here, but the enjoyment isn't. Like a few years ago, during my stay in my hometown, things were completely different. Those were very much enjoyable, the complete winter vibes, friends & family, carefree night rides, and whatnot, all kinda faded away with time. I am inside my blanket, in a very cozy situation, trying to get some warmth, and suddenly, all the old memories started to hit me hard. So I took the phone and kinda started scrolling through the gallery, throwing back to the old times.

"ᵂᵒʳᵈˢ ᵃⁿᵈ ᵖⁱᶜˢ ᵃʳᵉ ᵐⁱⁿᵉ, ᵘⁿˡᵉˢˢ ᴵ ˢʰᵒᵘᵗᵒᵘᵗ ʷʰᵉʳᵉ ᵗʰᵉʸ ᶜᵃᵐᵉ ᶠʳᵒᵐ!"

What wasn't there?

Friends, each evening used to start with them, riding through the foggy roads, visiting the remote villages for sipping on the cup of tea that used to feel more special than the ones available in our places. Make fire to warm ourselves, BBQ nights, different types of pithas, and so on.

You know what, it used to get hard for me to keep sitting on the chair during nights before my desktop. Hahaha, I used to sit with the blanket covered and start watching movies. Yeah, life was too chilling; one movie a night was my usual routine, whether it was shivering cold weather or not. Used to wake up late in the morning, mom would keep calling me to get done with breakfast with everyone, as she would prepare winter special breakfasts. Part of our Bengali traditions. You can Google “winter special foods in Bangladesh" and see the beautiful images of them.

And now what?

Nights are still sleepless, but not for movies, but to keep track of the pending tasks. Mornings aren't anymore for sleeping, gotta wake up by 7.30 AM and tough the water, get freshened up and set for the office. Hell yeah, I'm an office guy who listens to nothing, gotta attend the office on time no matter how cold it is outside. The weekend feels sooooo amazing that I can't express it in words. It was a 3-day holiday that just got over, and I'm gonna wake up early from tomorrow, no scope to enjoy the winter morning from inside the blanket. Mother isn't here to make the winter special breakfasts, so I got the usual breads and jelly to start the day.

Yeah, that's how life has been going on. Seeing some souls enjoying the very things I enjoyed in the past kinda makes me sad, as things have changed so much that they feel so unrealistic now. I don't know if things gonna be like that ever again or if I'm in the loop of this survival mode.

Sort:

I hope you get a chance to visit home soon and taste those 'winter special' breakfasts again. You deserve a break from the survival mode! To be honest we all do.

Yeah, I do hope the same.
