Present tense gratitude

How did it get so late so soon? Its night before its afternoon. December is here before its June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?

- Dr. Seuss -

Over the years I've thought and spoken a lot about time: It only goes one way, it must be made the most of, it has an end, it changes things...there's many things that matter when it comes to time, many things people spend it on, plenty of things they probably should not and loads of things about time that can be seen as positive and negative. I'm not going to rehash all of that right now however I want to mention the importance of right now - I mean the present.

At this time of year I look backwards over the year and forwards to the next and think about how I can learn from the past and improve the future but mostly I think about the present as I feel it is a good time to think about what I'm grateful for in the moment as it feels motivating at a time when I'm thinking about the past and future with a mind to improve the latter.

So many people waste time thinking about what they do not have instead of what they have in the here and now and while I think future planning is critical to make it as good as possible it's vitally important to stop and feel genuine and deep gratitude for what, and who, we have around us in the present.

With this in mind I want to ask you folks to take the time to respond (if you'd like to) with one or two things you feel grateful for in this very moment. It could be health, a person close to you, an item; really it's anything you're feeling grateful for right now. Feel free to drop it into the comments and let me know, maybe around 50 words as I don't have loads of time to read lengthy responses, and I'll issue out a few decent comment votes to some who respond.

What with almost everyone I know afflicted with some ailment or other, I feel profoundly grateful for my excellent health, but don't know who to thank for it:)

That's an excellent thing to feel gratitude for and I concur.

At this moment, I am grateful that in the country where I live, the desire to improve their future has awakened in young people.
I am grateful because all those good, honest, decent people, who want better for their children, came out on the street.
I'm grateful that they didn't stay in their homes like many times before and provided support through social networks.
I'm grateful that they showed with a peaceful protest that there is a large majority of normal people and that not all of them are illiterate, heathen, sold and dirty like those who support thieving government.

That's a good one! It's a broad thing that affects your entire life and if you're happy with the situation it's worth showing gratitude for.

After not having water for so long I am really grateful that we have water now. I am also grateful to my favorite basketball team for doing their best. Sure they still lose some games that they should have won. But they also won some games that seemed lost.

Bonus. I grateful to myself for my creativity. Even if not everyone likes my works I enjoy making them.

Three great options and I think they're well worthy of some gratitude.

I'm grateful for my wife and my family. Some of them drive me crazy sometimes (the family, not the wife) :), but I still love them.

Yep, I like this one and hope you tell them all the time, that's important.

Life is a constant journey of transformation, I am grateful for everything that has happened to me through all these years of the bad things I learned and the good moments I was happy, so seeing things from this perspective I give thanks for the joy of living and learning and reaching a future bathed in experiences, some gratifying, others painful, but which are still part of a great learning

Grateful for everything. I like it. Any specific things as well?

Something specific would be the opportunity we have every day to start over what we set out to do, even if things don't turn out as we expect. We can rethink each situation until we make it work. I am grateful for this journey called life, where we are the owners of forging our destiny.

Bloody excellent! Well said.

I feel grateful for my family, my cats, for the immense love I feel for them, for being in good health and for having learned so much throughout my life. Thank you for the love people show me and the love I have for them. Thank you for the road I have travelled.

Cats...one must feel gratitude for having them around. I like this one and agree!

I am always grateful for them, they give me too much, few understand that.

They do and I'm so grateful to have my can Cleo, and that I've had the others which I think about and fondly of all the time.

And I... I always remember them.

Greetings. I hope you are well and ready to celebrate these days.
As you say, there are many things that we need or rather, we would like to have but we forget those that we have and are so important. Today I want to give thanks for my health and that of all my loved ones. When we don't have it we suffer a lot 🙏🏼

Health and loved ones are very important in any humans life so I think they're two excellent choices!

Wise words, which give maturity. I am thankful every day just for waking up, being healthy and with my loved ones, the rest is relevant to me, greetings!

Waking up (being alive) and healthy are really good things to show gratitude for. Well done.

2024 was such a mess, man. It was the worst year for me. As a person alone my experiences this year, from family, health, and work, to everything in existence. Nothing went as planned. And the only one or two things that are going "good", aren't even surefire yet. Yet, at the end of the day, I can always take home the lessons that I've learned. These lesions are the only things that keep me going and help me hold on to the last speck of optimism that is left within me.

So many people waste time thinking about what they do not have instead of what they have in the here and now

Totally agree with this!

For me, have being through some minor scares, I am grateful that I have generally good health that allows me to go about my daily activities. And of course, loved ones and friends who are always around for me.
