People find relaxation, self-connection and personal enjoyment in various ways, or should.
Most of us lead hectic, busy, complicated, stressed lives - or whatever adjective applies to each individual - and finding time for oneself can be difficult at the best of times so I believe each person should find some things that make them feel more engaged with their own personal life and their personal self as well and then make their best endeavour to engage in those things.
Some may go fishing, get their nails done at the salon, meet with friends, go for a swim or bike ride, some may read or write, watch movies, do gardening or go for a drive to the country...there's so many different things a person can do to find some comfort and enjoyment and to engage on a more personal level with themselves and their inner feelings and I believe it helps keep people stay in the right headspace and that makes them more effective at life generally...After all, isn't one of the major goals in life to be happy?

I do a lot of things and as an outdoorsman many revolve around the love of nature as I've said before and is evident through what I sometimes post about. I also read and write a lot, watch shows and movies, do gardening and DIY jobs, have BBQ's with friends and all sorts of other things too, but sometimes I sit and just play with pussy...I mean my cat Cleo...and that provides all I need in the moment to feel relaxed, at peace and happy.

I was sitting there talking with her and sipping a cup of coffee. We had the house to ourselves and spent a half hour together talking about things, having cuddles and generally just being together. In that moment I found such peace and happiness, it felt like I was recharging, like the energy poured from Cleo and into me through the connection and that is something special and something I needed because life is complex and convoluted sometimes, like right now...my time with Cleo helped straighten it out, emotionally at least, and left me in a better space to proceed with the various scenarios of life.

I mostly do art though there's definitely puppy and kitten cuddling that happens as well. I kind of really need to get back into the martial arts training as well but both time and money issues are hard noping that -_-

Only a short time ago, hour or so. She came up where I was laid back and watching an episode of "Fargo"
She was all licky and lovey. Not even close to the feral wild kitten we rescued.
Those moments of affection always make my day. 30 seconds or 30 minutes. Whatever Sammi Jo is giving. I am taking it.
She most often cuddles up next to me and naps. Like right now. Live shot in 4... 3... 2...

Cats have that magic gift of peace! When they arent savaging little animals and fingers and toes in the wild that is!
They do...I've lost many a finger to a playful cat...and yet I still place may hard at risk because patting cats make me feel so good. 😊

Yeah, we call them kisses with teeth when Cleo does it...Not as nice as a kiss though...more painful. 😂
Cats are rather remarkable in their ability to help people not only connect with another being, but connect with the Present moment. And there's something very cathartic in that!

I agree, there's something very special about them...they have a way of reaching right into a person. Cleo is very important to me and I value her above any material possession I have.
It is very therapeutic to cuddle our pets and play with them. They are very connected... better connected, I would say, to the essence of life, than we are. 💚
I agree, I'm not sure how but Cleo knows my moods and acts accordingly and that's what brings me the most happiness and comfort. If I'm upset about something she comes over and sits next to me or on my lap and I feel better. I think dogs do the same but maybe it comes out more strongly in cats.
It all depends on the connection we have with our pets. Chanel has a cute way of making me feel good when I'm feeling sad, and Yin, a cat I still can't figure out, I feel like he needs me because he's had a life full of needs and disaffections.
By the way... your Cleo is so beautiful.
I agree. I get really annoyed when I hear about pets being abused by owners and I wonder what sort of a person would do such things to their pet...assholes obviously.
Cleo really is such an awesome little cat and, in truth, I've been blessed with amazing cats throughout. Dixie, Merlin (my best mate ever), Gemmi and Cleo...all different but all incredible cats and friends.

I like seeing those names of your friends and the beautiful way you remember them. Stories of friendship and true love. Nothing better than that, to not feel alone even in crowds.
I miss those who are no longer with me but have such great memories of them that make me so glad I had them in my life.
Cats are great at helping us get relaxed and feel at ease. Other animals too, but cats are just special that way. I don’t have cats at the moment, but strays hang out in the backyard, and 2 neighbor cats regularly come inside. Those two are friendly and can be touched. One cat comes in, sits on the couch, and starts drooling extensively if you pet him 😄
You're right and I seem to derive a lot of happiness from them.

From the beginning as I was reading, even before you mentioned Cleo, I thought of Cata and Tony, my loves.
Although there are other things that relax me like painting, designing, walking on the beach, in the bush, drinking mate in a park, my time with my kittens is the most beautiful thing, with Tony I go for walks, although now it's winter and I don't take him out. And with Cata I play, she loves it and calls me to play, run and cuddle.

Cats are incredible creatures, pets in general I guess though. They have a power over their owners, one that seems able to take away the bad and fill their lives with goodness.
We are theirs, you know? But I feel comfortable with that because I adore them.
They have that power to say, cats are the only animals capable of transmuting energy from negative to positive. Dogs can't do that. Cats are magical.
My friend, your cat Cleo is beautiful. I don't have cats or puppies, just a jicotea, as you know, but I don't think she knows my moods. But she does appreciate my care and I feel good when I feed and bathe her, don't you think? I forgot Chanel and Yin the nanixxx pets also give me love.

I used to love it when our dog would jump up on the couch with us and put her head in my lap. It was one of the nicest times. She doesn't do that so much anymore. She's just a grumpy old lady now. I also used to love on Saturday and Sunday mornings when we would sleep in and she was able to get up on the bed with us. She would move from our feet up between us on the bed and snuggle up close to us.
It's those moments that help us find comfort and contentment and it's often pets that can bring it. I find so much value in spending time with Cleo, she understands me perfectly and knows when to listen and when to talk. (They talk in their own way I think.)
Yeah, I totally get what you are saying. I'm really holding onto those moments more and more as Jovi gets older. She's 14 now and going through some rough stuff healthwise.
I've wanted to get a cat for so long, but our house isn't "big enough". Then there's the matter of safety in this concrete jungle. A dog would be nice too, we used to have a dog about 2 decades ago, it was a stray pup we brought home, but the pup after a few months got stolen. After that, we never really thought of getting another dog.
On top of that, cats and dogs are notorious, and known for wandering around, and this city isn't a good place to wander about; whether it's animals, or humans. And we don't wanna keep them locked indoors, especially dogs, they should get some exercise.
So, for now, only images and videos of cats and dogs will have to do lol.
Cleo doesn't move much and she's not an outdoor cat. I bring here out to my alfresco area sometimes, but only if I'm there with her and only for a short time. I don't let her roam about, it's not good for the wildlife as they tend to hunt. She sleeps for most of the day, cats sleep for something like 20-22 hours a day...what a life huh?
Dogs need to have some space though, as you say, and it's cruel to lock them into small places.
Because they have us hoomans working and providing for them. Most of us would do the same if we got the same treatment. 😂
Yup, that's why I'm not getting any pets any time soon. When I'll be able to give them a good life, only then I'll delve into the matter of getting a pet.
People who get pets and then neglect or mistreat them are assholes. So it's good that you know when is not the right time to get one. That's responsible.
I've handled stray animals all my life. I still feed the stray cats and dogs in my area whenever I get the chance. So, the least I can do is give some of them a proper place to stay when I decide to take one in as a pet.
I have these moments every day because both our cats sleep with me every single night. Maesi always seem to call me to lay with her so she can start making biscuits in my blanket and preferably while massaging me at the same time (the sweetheart). She purrs extremely loud when she does it, sometimes I feel myself drifting off, totally relaxed and I totally understand why they call it the healing vibration. I feel honoured whenever she picks me to snuggle up against and I can't even imagine my life without cat love anymore.

Cleo sleeps on my bed too, sometimes she comes up beside me and puts her hand (paw) on my hand and I hold it...Very often she won't move all night and I wake up still holding her paw. It's cute huh? She has her little mannerisms and an amazing personality as I assume yours do also. I'd be lost without Cleo.
Ah that's adorable and says a lot about the bond you two have. I'm curious in your household, is Cleo also more affectionate towards you (aka favourite person?) or does she love your wife as much?
I'm curious because in our household, for some reason, every cat we had picked me as the favourite and I had very strong connections with all of them, some more special than others but I was always the one they'd prefer over the others.
Thankfully it doesn't mean they never snuggle up against my daughter or boyfriend but it's clear that they follow me around constantly and are not so interested in what the others do during the day :)
I'd like to say I'm her favourite but she loves my partner so much so I better be honest and say I'm in second place. Having said that, the main difference is that she'll sit on my partner's lap if we're on the couch watching TV rather than mine. In everything else we're equal I'd say.
Cleo and my girl are very close though and I love it, they are my favourite people.

I find moments spend with animals, especially pets, to be calming and relaxing. Sometimes it also puts a lot of things into perspective. Pets just need very little from us. Food, shelter, our time and attention. Apart from that they can be contented. But humans tend to complicate their lives on their own. Sometimes, just acting like a cat, lazing around, and enjoying the company is all we need.
Pets are valuable to their owners for many reasons and they tend to make people happier. I certainly feel happy around Cleo, it's impossible not to feel that way actually. It's difficult to describe, I guess a person needs to feel it for themselves.
Hi Galen, I am also of the opinion that from time to time we have to stop and find those moments of connection with ourselves. I walk at dusk or dawn, I like to walk at that time when it is neither night nor day. I also usually find some time to read. A hug
I walk a lot too, hiking and all, but just walking after work to relax. I actually try to go for a walk during work time too, it helps me focus.

I like to sit at a cafe and sip my coffee. Sometimes I look at people that was passing by, sometimes I do some reflections about life, sometimes I just plan out my schedule for the upcoming week.
That's a good way to relax and I think many do the same.

it is so wonderful to see cleo today :) you always get a good company and such company is indeed make life beautiful. Pets are good friends and keeping them close caring them and playing with them always helps in easing out the daily stress and be in yourself. when i needed such quality time, either i listen to some old classical hindi musics or goes out on a walk to my sacred space...the river front....it always gives me more positive vibes
She's a cutie for sure, I love her so much; I'd be pretty devastated without here...which I guess will happen some day as she won't live forever. (Neither will I for that matter.)
Walking and music, even walking with music, is something I love to do...I'm off for a walk after I write this comment actually. The sun is setting, it's golden light outside and I want to walk off the stresses of my day. It's a perfectly legitimate thing to be doing I think.

Yes, life is so convoluted that one has to find a way to straighten it or at least make it seem so. Those moments you take your 'eyes' off things and focus on what gives you some peace is so worth it. I am so relaxed when I'm in the midst of Nature, it could be watching the fishes or the birds or doing a little gardening. I also love pouring out whatever I'm feeling in writing.

Yes, I can take a walk in a park or just go to sleep... Yes as much as it might sound funny, nothing disturbs my sleep. Some say I'm lucky, I don't know about that but I do know that it is an antidote of sorts, against life's many venoms 😊

I read 2-4 books a month so yes, I've liked novels, I have three arriving today which I purchased a few days ago actually - I don't like ebooks, I prefer to buy the physical book. I have a library room in my house and it's filled with them.
That sounds interesting. What sorts of books do you like reading? Having a library in your own house is a dream for many of us. I'll have one of my own in a few years. I do have a dedicated study room, but I mostly give my books to my fiancee.

I like meeting with friends too, but a lot of the time I like relaxing away from humans and the complexities they can bring which is why I love nature so much, and my cat...there's very little complication there and one knows what one will get.
haha I see. Maybe it's just different because you already meet and communicate with people on a daily basis. I'm at home and work from home with not much actual face to face communication so maybe it's a bit more relaxing for me to go out once in a while to eat and chat with friends although I do like to stay at home.
I guess I could see the complexities but I think it's ok if you meet the right people. It's usually just catching up most of the time at least for me. Maybe you get into more crazy situations than me so I don't know
Yeah, I'm with people most of the day and as a man who likes privacy and quiet, it can get annoying having people around all the time so I limit it.
I have many of "the right people," as you put it, in my life...I just don't need to be around them all the time. I'm comfortable with my own company, my partner and Cleo...they're the most important.

Meeting with those friends for me is like once a month at minimum and maybe two at maximum .
It's cool that you don't need to be around them all the time. We have our own lives and things that's how it is usually growing up after finishing studies. We seem to grow apart from others and just have a super small circle. Glad that you're comfortable with your own company, partner and Cleo the two most important in your life.
I spend a lot of time away from my partner and Cleo which makes me feel sad so when I can be here I am. It doesn't mean we don't spend time with other people, we're selective with whom though.
