Maybe some of you have noticed that I have been missing from Hive lately. As I mentioned in one of my previous post, I took a break to focus on trading, but have also been busy with a huge project I've been planning and have been procrastinating for a good reason.
I decided to rearrange all my stuff, select only what I'm using and find a good place for the rest. This means selecting clothes to charity and the rest of the stuff to sell. Thank God today, thanks to digitization, we have the possibility of connecting with neighboring countries and shipping an item is not just easy, but affordable too. This is nice and a huge help, but it's not the focus of my post.
While I was emptying my drawers, wardrobes, had time to think about a lot of things and what at first seemed like a job of a day, turned out to be a very helpful and valuable life lesson that hopefully will help me a lot in the future.
During this huge selection, I came across a lot of stuff I had no idea I even have. Good quality clothes that I put aside years ago, as I didn't need them anymore, but were too good to just throw them away and so I did with other stuff I don't use anymore.
I bet I'm not the only one who thinks maybe one day that item can come in handy, or maybe one day that pair of jeans will fit again, or maybe one day I'm going to use that bag again and so on. Maybe one day, right? But when is that day? When will that day come? In a year? In five years? Or a decade later? Or two decades later? Or maybe never? And this is how we keep accumulating stuff we don't need anymore.
I don't know about you, but there's an emotional connection between me and my things, regardless if we're talking about clothes of other objects. There's value in everything, especially if you worked for the money you used to pay those items, so obviously it's hard to just throw them away. It's not me.
The problem is, by storing to many things you don't use, in time, your living space gets smaller and smaller and one nice day you realize 40 - 50% of your space is filled with things that are not necessary.
Life is a balance between holding on and letting go - Rumi
While writing this post, I came across this quote on X, which kind of fits the topic of my post. I fully agree with the saying and can see the negative effect of a missing balance.
During this huge selection, I was thinking that this behavior is not restricted to clothes or physical items only. I tend to do this with digital stuff. Every day i come across analyses, educational materials, quotes and what not, on X and other platforms, bookmark them for later. But when is later as I rarely go back to brows my bookmarks to actually read those bookmarked pieces, study them, learn and memorize them. From time to time I tend to clean my bookmarks and am shocked by things I find. Some are useful, others are outdated, obsolete and not useful anymore.
If you take a step back and look at the bigger picture, try to analyze this as a type of behavior, not just a case, you will see the pattern.
Last night I went to the hairdresser and while she was preparing her things, we had a chat, during which she asked how I am, what I've been doing lately, so I told her I've been busy with this huge selection of my things. She said I should go to her house as it is full of stuff she didn't use and the manicurist said the same. If you're reading this post, let me know if you recognize yourself as doing the same as me. Let me know in a comment.
So what I did as a first step, was photograph all the things I don't need anymore. It's a helluva job, trust me, especially if you want to do it right, but totally worth the effort. Then slowly listed most of it on Vinted. The money I could get, won't make me rich, but getting rich this way has never been my intention. Those who are buying, are getting what they need/want at a convenient price. So if you think better, it's a win win situation. Yesterday I sold a winter coat that was sitting my wardrobe for years. Today someone else get to enjoy it and now has a problem sell as they are protected from a harsh winter. I'm happy, they are happy, problem solved.
Sales are ongoing right now and there are still things to list and take to charity, but all in all, I'm really happy finally I took this step. It made me realize what I've been doing is not quite healthy and a change is needed in the future.
Next is the digital cleaning, especially that I have bought a new laptop, which I had no time to set up yet. Review all my bookmarks, folders, delete what I don't need and so on. You can call this autumn cleaning, but it's way more than that. I made a promise to myself to never let things go this far. Let's see if I'm able to keep it. With the bull run coming, most likely I'll have very little free time, but still, I need to try and do my best. If I don't make these changes, no one will and it's for my own benefit.
What about you? Are you collecting or storing things you don't need, just because you don't want to throw them away? Let me know in a comment.

I really missed this kind of posts, I really like your reflections, so two in a row is almost a gift from heaven.
Who hasn't saved things thinking that we can use them later? Especially me who works making models, I end up saving cardboard or wood cuttings that I say they could be useful but end up accumulating.

This has to be done. I have already been doing it. I gave many of my clothes to a needy family. Now I am sorting parts and cables from electronic devices. Maybe I will sell them for some money. Symbolic.
Nice thoughts, Erikah.
Hello, what majestic flowers, anyone who does not take the time to read the publication would say that the publication is about flowers, but the truth is that we all have this problem of storing items that we do not use and as you say it is a hell of a job.
Now I am also reorganizing myself and I want to start writing about the NBA because I think I can do a good job on that sports topic and can leave quality publications, the problem is that I did it before in Scorum and ali knew me but in Hive only know me in a specific community, but no doubt I think I will do it anyway.
Beautiful shots 😍 great captures 👍
😆
I definitely accumulate things that are special to me even though they aren't... I think I have mentioned before that we really cleaned house when we moved a few years ago. Donated or sold soooo much. And never looked back. It was hard but we haven't regretted any of it. I have been better with digital assets. I had a hard drive fail several years ago that really made me think about making sure digital assets that I valued were safe and secure. A big part of that is sorting through all the crap to identify what is valued. And then its easy to trash the crap.

It takes real discipline to do away with some of these things as a phone as he and laptop engineer I go through this a lot but once in a while I find the time to do away with old and broken gadgets which won't work causing they have a way of disorganising the place
