I cannot represent myself as someone who knows art in any but the most cursory manner. I know what I like, what makes me feel, and evokes thoughts and emotions, so I suppose I simply know art when it comes to myself only.
I love drawing and painting, the results of which I've not felt comfortable sharing here so far, and love to play around with either when the time permits, which is not all that often, and I also like visiting art galleries.
My guy and I have travelled to many places around the world including Paris many times - we love it deeply - and have visited many art galleries on our travels. We always find so much to love and in Paris it's easy to spend an entire day in the Louvre, musée de l'Orangerie and other places admiring amazing artworks such as the one above by Henri Matisse called, "Femme au canapé ou Le Divan," which he painted in 1921.
It hangs in the musée de l'Orangerie in Paris and I find it to be so lovely.
It conveys a sense of happiness and contentment, tranquility almost, as the lady sits relaxing beside the open windows with a vibrant blue ocean beyond. I see the outline of a person on the divan, hands behind the head...maybe the woman's thoughts projected there, the shadow of a memory perhaps. It reminds me of times in which I've done that on the French Riviera and other places, sitting by the open window looking out at beautiful scenery; the painting takes me back to those moments.
That's how it goes when I look at art, it triggers me, makes me feel, and whether the artwork is good or not in the estimation of an educated art critique just doesn't matter in the least bit. If I feel it, then it's good.
Each work of art is interpreted depending on the viewer, their emotions and feelings, that is why it is so special many times, works that evoke things and if they do and arouse emotions reach the heart. That is what matters. It's the same for me, even if most people don't like that work... I do.

Do you have a favorite painter and if you have one why is that painter your favorite?
I don't really have one single artist I like, I tend to like individual artworks rather than follow an artist.

I don't like all the works of an artist but for example a lot of Van Gogh, Monet, Sorolla, classical art and especially paintings where there are seascapes or flowers. Some of Picasso's early works as well. There are many, I don't have a favourite.
Also surrealist painting like for example the works of Vladimir Kush.
I suppose it's like me, whatever appeals no matter the artist.

Hello dear Becca!. Art expresses the feeling of the artist, but when it is exposed to the world we are all free to interpret it as we like and that is beautiful. I don't know the most important museums like the one you mention in Paris, but I also have the ability to spend the whole day in them, and if it's with the right person then it's much better ❤️ Happy to read and greet you, happy start of the week!...
You speak like someone who enjoys art, do you have any favorite artworks or artist that you specifically like?

It's incredible what people see in artwork and how each person has the ability to see the same artwork in different ways, have different feelings, emotions and reactions to the very same thing. I think you're on the right track in making your own judgement on artwork, you do you, and let others be them.
We all see the world, and other people, differently so it makes sense to see artwork in this way. Although I believe people's individuality is being diminished a lot through marketing and social media.

Even looking at this one, it evokes many thoughts and interpretations in my mind. Art works are good ways of expressing one's feeling
Art is definitely a good way to express ourselves.
