What a wonderful time!
Yesterday, I finally put on a wetsuit that I bought months ago. I also grabbed my new Cressi-Sub SL 55 Star speargun. I've been "spearfishing" with a Hawaiian Sling sling before, but this was my first time ever using an actual speargun. The target species was gar, and we started off by fishing for them with live bait on some fishing poles. After getting no bites at all, I decided to slip into my wetsuit. A friend of mine helped me rig up my speargun since it was my first time even really look at it since I got it.
Beneath the surface, I noticed that there were Gar absolutely nowhere. The only real fish I saw were Suckers and Smallmouth Bass, but Bass are off-limits for spearfishing most places. So... I began to learn how to shoot suckers with my speargun. Honestly, I probably took about 50 shots, and in the end I got nine suckers that we cooked for dinner. I took a photo with the largest one and am excitedly looking forward to the next spearfishing trip. Enjoy the photos!
