It certainly isn't easy to travel at the moment, but at least travel is possible for those who need to move! I decided to travel from Cyprus to Adelaide, Australia as "Fortress Australia" opened its doors to fully vaccinated, passport-holding citizens! (That's me!)
So the journey began with PCR tests and medical grade masks, suitcase packed and flexible spirit open to wherever I may end up! I wore the mask from when I entered the Airport in Cyprus to when I entered the medi-hotel in Adelaide 2 days later! (I will tell you about the medi-hotel stay in another post!)
Here are a few pictures as they will illustrate things better than my words...
I tried to travel light because I know I want to take back important things from Australia, like Vegemite, Jurlique and Beerenberg sauces. So even though I have a lot on the trolly, the large purple suitcase only weighed 18 kg.
The weird thing is that I arrived in Melbourne at 23.30 at night and the health officials were very relaxed and friendly. I didn't need a new PCR test and they let me be a Transit passenger to South Australia as long as I stayed in the Melbourne International Airport. After the final flight arrived, the Airport was empty with only a handful of people hanging around. I could've gone anywhere, but I was a good girl and stayed (awake) in the airport all night.
The next morning, still masked up, I enjoyed the Qantas Business Lounge - with a decent coffee and vegemite on toast! Even though I flew in an Emirates plane I did it with Qantas code share.
All up it was an easy travel journey with no delays and no lost luggage! Everything was fine until I arrived in South Australia...and that story will come to you in a future post!!
Travel Tips
Having all your documents in a folder is essential as you will be asked to prove your vaccination status several times! Much better to have it all ready in one place.
I will say that a decent mask is necessary so that you can be safe and not too desperate for fresh air.
Be patient as you really don't know what the Government is going to say or what Covid-related restrictions will be in place.
