I guess it's just so that we don't overthink it and find other answers to it, just a simple and perhaps literal one. The other answers also fit though but not in the same sense as a staircase. The mood, the fever...they go up and down too and could be said to be moving in that sense if I may say so, in an abstract manner. But the staircase doesn't move literally, its just built to go up and down.

As for the number of words in the waves, can we read from you in any of the communities or in daily blog since they allow longer posts and more words?
