My school, University For Development Studies (UDS) runs a trimester base instead of semester, the third Trimester we have something called TTFPP ( Third Trimester Field Practical Program) which implies students been sent to rural areas to stay and experience rural lives. In future if this students are posted to work in deprived areas they wouldn't feel difficulties due to the experience they have already, about this deprived rural areas.
It's now our term, the level 100's but we are fortunate to be sent to the Ashanti Region of Ghana, to have our TTFPP which some of us are sent to communities which does not even have electricity making things very difficult for us but as part of our academic activities we have no option. Infact it's a nice experience to leave and work with people in the deprived areas, they are so caring and loving making our stay in the community a memorable one.
