i saw them from my driveway in minnesota this summer too! hard to see with the naked eye but brilliant color when you take a picture with your phone!
So cool, They were actually quite visible with the naked eye but I used a 5 second long exposure and they pop like crazy!

Nope, no Northern lights! Just a bad Moon photo!
Good luck I checked multiple times over the evening and they suddenly were there!
