While reading Baxter’s “scale of balance,” I am reminded of a popular term in economics—opportunity cost! This term represents the benefits lost for not choosing the alternative option. Even though I am hesitant to use this term to describe the privileges enjoyed by those who are in the state of grace, for the sake of analogy, I will stick with it. What follows is a description of the cost you deprive yourself of by insisting on refusing God’s offer of grace.
