Hello my dear Ladies of Hive friends, I hope you are having a wonderful day and a more than great week.
Responding to the kind invitation of my very dear @hopestylist this is my entry to LOH contest 122, a response to the question asked by our questionnaire for this week @justbekindtoday
Why do you think society places such a high value on beauty
when it serves no functional purpose?
I will say beauty is a measure, we naturally move towards beautiful things unconsciously.
Society places a high value on beauty because it is seen as a sign of success and social status. In many cultures, beauty is seen as a sign of power, wealth, and influence. For example, throughout history, beautiful people have been given more attention, respect, and admiration than those who are not considered conventionally attractive. This is why people often strive to look their best and why they may invest time and money into their appearance.
On a practical level, beauty can also increase job opportunities and social standing. From a financial perspective, beautiful people often get better wages and job offers than their less attractive counterparts. As a result, people tend to maintain their good looks in order to stay competitive in the job market even when professionalism should come first
Looking from a psychological perspective, beauty is also linked to self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth. People who are considered attractive tend to have higher self-esteem, which leads to greater success in their life and career. Moreover, attractive people are often seen as more desirable partners and are more likely to get into relationships.
Beauty can be vain but society has come to associate beauty with success, wealth, power and influence like a web.
For some, beauty is often associated with youth, health, and vitality. This is why people often strive to look younger, healthier, and more vibrant. In many cultures appearance is seen as a sign of health and fertility, which is why people may invest in expensive beauty treatments.
Ultimately, beauty is seen as a sign of status and success, and is linked to psychological and practical benefits. As a result, society places a high value on beauty, even though it serves no functional purpose.
But I'll say, beauty is flawed without true character,
because bad character can make one's beauty look ugly.
We are in a time and age where people think they can get what they want by their looks, whilst it is true in some cases, it can only be preserved by the character.
Even while we judge society for defining and segregating beauty, it's also not a bad idea to look beautiful, it's also not a bad idea to use it to our advantage.
Because looking beautiful attracts a lot of beautiful things to our life

It's true what you mentioned that society tend to equate beauty to power and success. And such belief existed even long before us.
I totally agree with you on that.

Hello @yinks. Yes, society has placed a value on the concept of beauty, especially when it comes to physical appearance of the human body. But why the need to do so? Why put in a place a set of rules and values? Does it mean then that one must always strive to attain beauty so that person can fit into the role that society has defined for them.
Why can't one's accomplishments, personality, abilities, and aptitude be sufficient to live one's life without the pressure of trying to look a certain way. There are far too many other issues humans have to deal with than trying to live up to someone's definition of how they should look and then be ostracized for not attaining it. Those are just my thoughts.
And it's true what you say that:
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Take care.
The society we live in is a complicated one, and yes we have some many things to deal with so trying to keep up with the tags of society can be quite stressful
Thanks for sharing your thoughts too

One thing I have understood is beauty can get you things what you desire but it may not stay with you forever, eventually your intellect will speak for you
Exactly
Thank you @nainaztengra
