SCARS ARE BEAUTIFUL: MY TRUE STORY

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago

😊Hey There!

Fun fact: Did you know the size of your signature is linked to overall confidence, the larger your signature the greater your self-esteem? source

I'll be sharing with you a personal story that changed my life with hope that it will encourage someone💝. Title inspired from a beautiful song by Alessia cara,

The year 2007, back in secondary school SS3, think at around a little past 9pmish, I had gone out to study with my friends. You see, we grew up in a university environment, hence, it wasn't much of a deal mixing up with university students to study in their lecture theaters.
Same evening, a handsome young man, university student walked up to me, stared & said:

"How can a pretty face like yours go with such short finger nails & funny toes like that?"

Unaware of the impact this simple comment had on me, I found myself going through Life feeling insecure with inferior complexed, Worst being I was Shy.

Fast forward 2008, now a University student myself, I became a DUF (Designated Ugly Friend) with a purpose that it'll atleast take the attention off me.

While Friends dressed up fashionably, I was doing the opposite. Giving away my lovely outfits because I felt it didn't suit "a pretty face like mine with short finger nails & funny toes".

During school holidays, my Mum would often compliment me saying I knew how to 'Adana kaya' (English translation: one who takes good care of cloths), little did she know her daughter wasn't even wearing them.
I just kept all underneath my box and wore old sweaters from a local market. I converted all my Jean trousers to skirts because I felt my Ass was big & needed less attention. I hardly applied makeup and I avoided large student gatherings.

Then suddenly everything changed, just like in fairytale movies😅, I met my fairy godmother ANNE, a senior student who was my roommate in my new appointed hostel. Anne changed my life & perspective entirely.
One night she said to me,

"Starr I love your nose. Do you know you have a beautiful Nose? And I love your feet and hands, so smooth. You're a beautiful girl"

In my mind, I wanted to believe her, but coming from a Lady, nah! It didn't matter, The young man from 2007 knew best.
She kept on at it for weeks, finally I started giving ears. I tried to break out by mingling, I started reading more books, watching more inspired clips and Audio tracks. Anne also made me discover my worth by practicing complimenting ourselves daily and having heart-heart talks. Soon enough ladies from other rooms would join during our sessions and our room was tagged "the construction room".

😂phewww...how quickly time flies ayye

The reason for my story is to let someone facing insecurities know that they're not alone, I was there, truth is, it's a daily conscious effort I make till date. Embrace your beautiful imperfections, those scars make you beautiful.
The world's definition of perfection is unattainable. Dwelling on all those tabloid pictures only make you feel less of yourself, and if peradventure you manage to attain? your true beauty, uniqueness may be lost.

Realize you are exactly what you perceive of yourself, do not let the world determine how you're perceived.

Whatever your religion or practice, have faith in God, have faith in your yourself.

The coming New year 2022, Learn to compliment yourself and others, say kind words to yourself and others, you never know how positively it'll impact someone. O! Anne made me learn and practice Loving & believing in myself, She still does that till date.

I'm here in my little corner to let you know that_

You are Perfect, Amazing, Unique, Significant & Beautiful just the way you are!😚

Thank you for taking out time to read and Until Next Post, Hive, Vibe & Be Lucky🍀

Comments like that can have such a profound impact on us, you are beautiful and you need to feel that way and be happy with who you are. We are so self judgemental I find where we think we aren't good enough or pretty enough or talented enough to do the things others do. And when hearing something like that it can really set us back and dive us further into that feeling of being inadequate.

No one should ever make you feel like that intentional or not, you are amazing and you should always feel that you are loved.
It was great to meet you today in PYPT and I look forward to more of your posts

Hello @queenstarr. You are correct in that everyone should compliment themselves, give themselves pep talks, and just love yourself. There is no perfection in this world. People who try to tear others down and add to their insecurities should be avoided and not listened to. Believe what you think of yourself...not what others assign to you. It's only their opinion.

Thanks for sharing your personal story. Take care.

It was my pleasure sharing. Enjoy the Holiday🌸🤗I totally appreciate this kind reply @justclickindiva and very true too👏

Awee🌸

I believe you young man😁 Thank you @pravesh0

There were so many demoralizing things said to to us while we were young that even at adulthood many haven't been able to recover from.

Everyday I pray and hope our generation don't treat the younger generation that way.

I totally agree with you Neyo, we learn daily and it's all part of being human. Thank you for pointing that out. We can only hope and play our part as adults🌸🌸

I absolutely love this post. I used to have insecurities about myself too because I am short and ladies tend to go all about wanting tall guys. It made me very shy when talking to ladies because I never believed any lady could like me. Until a friend of mine made me observe just how many short men had beautiful wives. Some even had more than one! From that day on, it didn't matter to me anymore. I made a lot of female friends and we make random jokes about my height. It's all good. It's important that you love yourself, always. Because other than God, nobody can do it better for you. Thanks for the post!

😊Awee so Touching, it's all worth it if my story truly proves how we all peservered through our challenges. Thank you for sharing yours too skight🌸
I appreciate your kind words

If only people realize how far the words they speak can affect someone else life then I think they will do better. I am glad you are happy and more confident now, keep believing sister because you are a star and stars shine bright.

Awe Thank you Sis, love you for this kind words🌸 Glad to connect with you on here💐

You don't know how I liked your post @queenstarr. I grew up with a lot of insecurities. But after I had my only son I didn't have time to evaluate myself negatively because my priority was him. In my 40's I felt satisfied with myself, and even came to appreciate my physical attributes, which I didn't do before. Now older, and of course a little more deteriorated, but confident and satisfied with myself. I feel good and I look good. I'm not perfect and I don't think I'm the best, but I know who I am and I'm satisfied with that. The worst judge we can have is ourselves, but we shouldn't waste time on that, as life slips away from us. Also, you are very right about something else, believing in God and trying to know him, and knowing that he loves us, that also helps us to have a better concept of ourselves.

Awee😍
I feel inspired by what you've sent written. Wow🌸
Thank you for this reassuring comment @marbrym id keep to heart. Love you 🌸🌸

Thank you for your kind words. As you mentioned in your post, kind words make a big difference, and a positive gesture creates a chain reaction. so we should not give up on doing good without looking at whom 😉.

🌸Absolutely 😉

We can be out own worst enemy when we pay too much heed to a stranger's remark
, God's opinion of you and I has much more weight than all the world's opinions put together that we are precious, unique and beautiful to him who gave his life for us.

Thank you @queenstarr ❤️

🌸You've beautifully stated it and I agree with you Kerri. My pleasure sharing and learning from you aswell, thanks for the kindness❤️
