Drafting Change

in Ladies of Hive16 hours ago

The saying that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail is something I’ve always taken into consideration. I love having something to look forward to. I love mapping out steps to achieve a certain result. I love to plan ahead for events and look forward to things going smoothly. I just love having a sense of direction in most of the things that concern me.

At this time of the year, excitement is the order of the day. Excitement for the new year that is in a few hours time, and gratitude, for having survived all that happened through the year. It’s a beautiful time to be honest, and I’m also grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.

In few hours, it’ll be the year 2026. A year I’m convicted, is filled with peace, productivity and many more achievements than we envisage. The year 2025 taught me so much. It taught me resilience, it taught me patience. It tested my mental health, it tested my physical health. But amidst all these, I still had so many things to be grateful for. From my IT defense, to hitting my financial goals, to actually battling a severe illness, down to my relationship with God, I had all these things work in my favor.

There’s never an end to improvement, for us humans. There’s always an opportunity to be better, to build better, and achieve better. There’s still so much more I need to achieve in the year 2026. So, some time back, I sat to draft out a plan for what I wanted my year 2026 to look like. I drafted my plans in quarters, focusing solely on the first quarter, since that’s like the foundation of my year. This first quarter would simply be me pouring into myself. I would take my time to learn courses, embody that version of me I’ve always looked forward to, and most of all, invest.

For instance, I’ve always wanted to be a much calmer version of myself, that is something I can achieve in this first quarter, and is necessary for me to achieve before embodying that version I want to become. So, I wrote that down. I wrote that alongside how I was going to achieve it. I wrote it down, with instances from this year, where I overly reacted, and how I wanted to react from now on.

I’ve always wanted to learn sign language too, so I added it to my plans. I actually already started learning this some weeks back but I’m not fluent yet. This is something I’ve always wanted to learn for fun. So, while drafting my plans, I added this to the list. Defining the hours I’d be dedicating to it weekly and being as specific as possible.

There’s the need to be as detailed and as realistic as possible when setting goals. I’ve made the mistake of setting unattainable goals back in the past, and I know well how that played out. So, while there are no set resolutions, I’ve drafted out measures I believe will get me to where I want to be, as long as I stay disciplined.

Happy new year in advance everyone💕.

Thanks for reading.
