How have you and your family celebrated this year's Harvest Season? Like Halloween, Day of the Dead, All Saints' Day, Samhain or something else?
Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you about our traditions and Venezuelan culture regarding the Day of the Dead and All Saints' Day in my family, Halloween is really just another day on the calendar for me even though this day, that is, October 31 in Venezuela Houses, stores and shopping centers decorate with Halloween themes such as skulls, ghosts, blood, spider webs, witches and monsters. Many join this festivity. The most I have come to do is open the door to children when they come to ask for candy. I have never celebrated Halloween or Halloween and I don't think I ever will.
November 1 of all Saints and the faithful departed, day of Glory and Hope for those of us who are alive and trust in the promises of God.
A Catholic celebration, where those heroes of Faith are celebrated, who lived exemplary lives on earth and therefore share eternal life with God, each family has its Saint whom it asks to intercede before God to perform a miracle for us, In my house we do not worship Saints, we only recognize their power before God, and their immaculate life, we celebrate them by attending the different homilies held in their honor to remember their lives, also in our homes we make rosaries and light candles, tapers or candles.
October 2 All Souls' Day, a tradition that undoubtedly unites families and generations where we have to remember and honor our loved ones who are no longer with us, we attend the different cemeteries, we bring them flowers, we add a little color to their graves, we light candles and dedicate prayers or a few words to them as a sign of love, respect and eternal connection, we meet as a family, where I live people stay until very late in the cemetery they bring food, drinks and share There, in Venezuela we are less euphoric in our tradition of honoring and remembering our loved ones who are no longer on this earthly plane.
Sometimes we are not close to where our loved ones were buried, but we still have to remember them at home, light candles with a photograph of them, pray to them a lot and attend masses in their honor, in the different Catholic Churches throughout the country.
My culture is a little limited, I didn't know about the Samhain celebration, reading a little I was able to find out that it is a celebration to honor our ancestors and the legacies they left us, prepare to say goodbye to winter to move on to the most part of the annual calendar.

As for myself, I am part Chinese and I respect and resonate with celebrating my past ancestors similar to ‘All Souls’ Day since the Chinese culture essentially practices the same thing.
My Grandmother annually gathers family, arranges for food, lights a number aromatic Joss sticks, we visit, tidy, decorate the graves of our late family members and share stories of outstanding ancestors, set out food offerings to our ancestral spirits asking for their blessings upon their descendants to flourish and thrive in the future. Often a picnic meal follows and Red envelopes of money are handed out to family minors.
