Good for you! That is much further than my learning to Snorkel diving where I plan to book when I get actual vacation time in the Caribbean for some shallow reef diving.
Deep Sea diving does have many preparation safety protocols, far more time spent there than the actual dive itself. A local club practices at a community pool on a regular basis but they say that diving in the open ocean or shoreline can easily be a different thing with many variables and hazards. Everest base camp, wow! Elon Musk may be looking for volunteers to go to Mars.

Diwali, sure! Vancouver is fortunate to have a big Hindu Community and it is well publicized in advance taking well over a dozen city blocks not including residences. And the aroma of lots of yummy traditional foods.
