When I read this question on the latest @LadiesofHive writing challenge, I was stumped.
1️⃣ When was the last time you tried something new? Did it change you?
When?! When?! Aiks!!! Have I not tried anything new in forever?!!! Have I been stuck in familiar and comfortable enough for such a long time?!!
Sure, I have tried more of some things because of the lockdowns, more cooking just started brushing up on sewing, but nothing so left field that it took me out of my comfort zone. These are all things I already do, it is now just nudging the boundaries a little.
So, I backed up even more and finally stopped on something I had done about 4 years back when we had gone to visit family in Singapore.
The Hubs' cousin wanted to treat the kids to an adventure and had bought some tickets to an Extreme Park. While the kids did their thing, we adults were supposed to just hang out, sip coffee and chat. But we were all told to bring our shoes and I had mine in the car anyways.
But as soon as we got there, my name was thrown in the mix. You gotta try it, The Cousin said. I'm not fit, I am afraid of heights, I can't - I had so many excuses. I even tried bluffing that I didn't bring my shoes but after much coaxing, I said ok.
The Tree Top Course is used for Team Building and through the challenges, teams learn to lean in and help out to make it together to the end. It was tough and we had to be briefed and prepped. There were rescue personal all-around in the event any one of us got stuck, or got scared and froze (which happened with one of the kids!).
Long story short, I managed to pull through and gradually worked my way up into the most difficult course. There were some obstacles that were a real challenge, my core wasn't strong enough and it took all my strength and guts to get through but I made it. And at the end of it, I would have done it all over again.
I realised the overthinking, can really blow up your unfound fears and make them larger than life. There was also so much self-doubt, and I was beyond scared. Even though it was tough, it was a lot of fun and I learnt to let go - literally. And once I did, the monster in my head was way larger than the real thing. Does this mean I am ready for a bungee jump… hahaha no!! But who knows right?
I did make a video if you want to check out some of the challenges. And if you would like to take part in the writing challenge, click on THIS for more.
Thank you for reading,

Oh my! What an interesting adventure! You are brave! I'm sure I would have come up with more excuses than you did. Obviously you had fun at the end of the day! ☺️😊
I had a lot of hand-holding
And of course, my kids wouldn't let me chicken out 😃
I did have fun at the end
@kaerpediem omg I don't know if I would dare to do that!😂
I think you are very brave. 💙.
Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with the contest.😃
I had to really gather all my guts
And it wasn't as bad it looks, really ;D
Hahaha, I can imagine. Maybe I'll try it in the future somewhere 🤣.
Those excuses sound Oh so familiar, you got there and did it which makes one realize we can overcome fears we tend to nurture.
Strange life, when young climbing trees or jumping off rocks into pools one never considered we would later develop another voice in our head telling us not to....
Thanks for awesome entry @kaerpediem you may even get me to try something like that 🤔not so sure.
Now that you mention it, absolutely
The crazy things I did as a child is way scarier than this - definitely no harness to break the fall too haha
Glad you enjoyed the it @joanstewart
Great questions :D
We lose our confidence with age, to be a child running barefoot never concerned with bites, climb trees no safety taken, those were good days!
Glad you enjoyed this round!
hehehehehe yessssssss i know what you mean about the monster being bigger in your head hahaaha
my husband always says "the anticipation of a beating is worse than the beating itself" hahahaha i'm sure he heard that somewhere - but I don't know where LOL
but i'm so proud of you!!!! that is really quite an accomplishment when you're afraid of heights. I'm serious. that is a VERY hard fear to get over - and not only did you get over it - you ACCOMPLISHED much more!!!!
excellent!!! and yes - i saw this challenge and i wanted to join!!! and i might still have time?!?!?! i don't know hahahaha
if not - i hope to grab it next week :)
The kids had a big part to play in it
I had to walk my talk of "scared and shy is a waste of time".
I tried though, very hard and as subtlety as possible but so glad I did do it
It was too much fun, had rope burn and all, but still would do it all over again :D
rope burn - owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
that would make me reconsider hahahaha who knew ropes coudl burn so badly!!! LOL
When you are hanging on for dear life hahahaha
I laughed so hard just now 😂😂😂
Congratulations! It's those times that show us what we are really made of! I think sometimes the idea of it is worse than It itself. Sometimes not though, right???
I will bet your kids were proud of you and something tells me that the men had this all planned. :)
Anyway! You showed them all that you have the stuff this is made of! Well done!
So true, the mind is so powerful and it can really build our fears up.
Yes, the men stayed, Hubs was like, hey, you need someone down here to record - yes, sure! haha
I did, I showed myself too :D
Hahaha, it proves the point once again, some fears are somewhat bigger than reality.. some!
Congratulations, that 1 off the list!
It really is
So easy to believe the stories we tell ourselves ;p
They say, be careful with the stories and the narratives we create in our minds, hehehe 👍😀😘😍😆😜

Bendiciones🙌🤗🌷
Hehehe how nice all that looks, I still have my internal child and at 46 years of age I still climb the mango tree at my mother Gladys's house 😅😂🤣 and all those activities you did had her protection, so I would less doubt in doing them, I am glad that they had a great time and that your children made you another member of the group.
Congratulations on your post, I wish you luck in the contest. Blessings🙌🤗🌷
You climb the mango tree at 46?!!
Now I am jealous hehehehe
That's amazing though :D
Don't stop
My dad proved he can climb a tree about a couple of years back and he is 82 this year ... Both you and he are definitely braver than me :D
You are one brave lady. I haven't tried any of this in the last 7 years.
'On doctor's advice' of course Hehe
hahahaha
The doctor is wise and so are you :D
Great blog so far and i wish you well in the contest this week
So happy you enjoyed it Britt <33
