Esta vez toca el Concurso LOH #266. Las preguntas elaboradas fueron hechas por @priyanarc y dicen así:
1️⃣ En esta época del año se celebran muchas festividades: Janucá en la tradición judía, Yule/Solsticio en las tradiciones neopaganas y antiguas, Navidad en los hogares cristianos, el Día de Bodhi en algunas tradiciones budistas... ¿Alguna vez has celebrado con otras personas una tradición que no es la tuya? Si es así, cuéntanos. Si no, ¿lo considerarías y qué festividad elegirías como tu primera experiencia?
2️⃣ Si tu familia celebraba alguna festividad cuando eras niño, ¿conservas algún adorno, decoración o objeto ritual que se usara de niño? Si es así, ¿cuál es y qué significado tiene para ti?

I haven't shared with you all in a few days, but I'm still following the contest weekly because I find the questions very interesting, and I'm back again to faithfully participate with you every week. This time it's the LOH Contest #266. The questions were created by @priyanarc and are as follows:
1️⃣ Many holidays are celebrated this time of year: Hannukah in the Jewish tradition, Yule/Solstice in Neo-Pagan and ancient traditions, Christmas in Christian households, Bodhi Day in some Buddhist traditions... Have you ever celebrated with others in a tradition that is NOT your own? If so, tell us about it. If not, would you consider it, and which holiday would you choose as your first such experience?
2️⃣ If your family celebrated a holiday when you were a child, do you still have an ornament, decoration, or ritual item that was used when you were a child? If so, what is it and its significance to you?

En mi familia somos cristianos católicos y solemos celebrar la Navidad en familia y el nacimiento del Niño Jesús. Una de las cosas que hemos mantenido como tradición familiar y navideña desde hace unos años para acá es conmemorar la natividad del Señor Dios con la Corona de Adviento.

In my family, we are Catholic Christians, and we usually celebrate Christmas together, commemorating the birth of the Baby Jesus. One of the things we have maintained as a family and Christmas tradition for some years now is to celebrate the nativity of the Lord God with the Advent wreath.
Que no es más que una corona navideña con 4 velas que se encienden a partir del último domingo de noviembre y así los siguientes tres domingos hasta el día de Navidad, donde se encienden las 4 velas para que se consuman por completo. En esta actividad hacemos una oración especial en cada ocasión y hablamos de nuestros mejores deseos para el año siguiente.
It's simply a Christmas wreath with four candles that are lit starting on the last Sunday of November, and then every Sunday for the next three Sundays until Christmas Day, when all four candles are lit and allowed to burn completely. During this activity, we say a special prayer each time and share our best wishes for the coming year.
Ahora para responder a su primera pregunta, hasta el día de hoy no he tenido la oportunidad de celebrar otras costumbres y/o creencias navideñas en otras familias o en otro país. Y si tuviera la oportunidad de hacerlo, me gustaría compartirlo con personas de algún país donde haya nieve, más específicamente en Japón 😁.
Now, to answer your first question, to this day, I haven't had the opportunity to experience other Christmas customs and/or beliefs in other families or countries. And if I did have the chance, I'd love to share it with people from a country where it snows, more specifically Japan 😁.
Para responder a la segunda pregunta, como venezolanos tenemos algunas costumbres para estas fechas especiales. Una de ellas es preparar la cena de Navidad, una cena que hacemos el día 24 y también el 31 de diciembre, en ella se suele servir hallaca, pernil, pan de jamón y ensalada de gallina.
To answer the second question, as Venezuelans, we have some traditions for these special dates. One of them is preparing Christmas dinner, a dinner we have on December 24th and also on the 31st. It usually includes hallacas, pernil (roasted pork leg), pan de jamón (ham bread), and chicken salad.
La elaboración de las hallacas es lo que lleva más trabajo y generalmente se hacen cuando toda la familia está reunida. Unos lavan las hojas, otros las secan, otros arman el guiso y pican los aliños, otros se sientan a armar cada hallaca, otro le coloca los adornos (vegetales picados), luego se cierra y otra persona se encarga de amarrarlas para cocinarlas finalmente por un buen rato.
Making hallacas is the most labor-intensive part and is usually done when the whole family is together. Some wash the leaves, others dry them, others prepare the stew and chop the seasonings, others sit down to assemble each hallaca, another adds the garnishes (chopped vegetables), then it's closed, and another person ties them up before they are finally cooked for a good while.
Yo soy más de cocinar cosas dulces pero últimamente lo he dejado de hacer porque en mi casa mis padres son diabéticos y yo actualmente tengo resistencia a la insulina así que tenemos que cuidarnos. En Navidad solía preparar mis famosas galletas navideñas, unas galletas de especias muy sabrosas para repartir a mis amistades y familiares. Tengo ya 3 años que no las preparo, contando el 2025.
I'm more of a baker, but lately I've stopped because my parents are diabetic and I currently have insulin resistance, so we have to be careful. At Christmas, I used to make my famous Christmas cookies, delicious spiced cookies to share with my friends and family. I haven't made them in three years now, counting 2025.

Hahaha, I know because I am also very interested in Japanese cultures, celebrations, and traditions. I am familiar with some Chinese cultural festivals, like the Chinese (Lunar) New Year, the Mid-Autumn Festival, but I never got the chance to celebrate them traditionally...Hopefully one day...The food looks delicious...
