Hello beautiful people i just want to share this with you i hope you find it helpful.
Often times, we get caught up with buying certain foods, and some times we end up not using them because we discovered that its no longer usable or fresh, (let me be specific, I'll be talking about vegetables ). Most vegetables have a high moisture content, therefore making it a more conducive environment for microorganisms leading to spoilage if not properly stored.
This has become a statement of problem. In a situation where u bought some vegetables but got too busy to use then Immediately, or maybe your temporarily out of electricity to refrigerate, or maybe you dont have a refrigerator. Do you just allow your vegetables spoil?.
Here is an easy way to go about it. I'll be using Okra in this case.
Okra plant.
You can actually preserve your vegetables by drying them. Drying them will reduce the moisture content in them making it less conducive for microbial attacks hence increasing its shelf life. You could actually use any form of drying, sun drying which would cost you nothing, air drying, oven drying, microwave drying etc.
This form of preservation would reduce stress and also solve the problem of food security. That is, even when these vegetables are out of season, you could still have then because you preserved ahead of time.
HOW I PRESERVE MY OKRA PLANT
After washing them properly, the next step is cutting it into desired sized except you want it whole.
Weighing it. I prefer weighing to ease packaging
Spreading them on a large tray
Now its ready for any form of drying you desire.
The dried vegetables can be stored in ziplock bags or in the open air.
I hope you find this helpful. Thank you
