This Week's Contest Topic: "If you could have any animal as a pet, what would you choose and why? Would you prefer a male or female of that animal?"

Here’s my response:

If I could choose any pet, I would go for a cat. When I was growing up with my parents, we had a cat at home. That cat really helped us because we had a lot of rats causing problems especially in the kitchen, in the drainage, and even running on the roof at night. But once we brought the cat into the house, everything changed. Within the first month, we noticed a big drop in the number of rats disturbing us at night. It was such a relief for everyone in the house! So, for me, having a cat as a pet is not just about companionship, it’s also very useful for keeping the home peaceful. Aside from being great at hunting rats, our cat also had a special way of communicating with us, especially when something unusual was about to happen. I remember a particular morning when my mum, who was a market seller, was getting ready to go to Nyanya market in Abuja, Nigeria. She planned to go there early to buy some goods she would later resell. Image generated from freepik.com

That day, something strange happened with our female cat. She kept crying and making unusual sounds that seemed to demand attention. At first, we thought she was just hungry. Normally, she gets very hungry every morning, even if she ate a lot the night before. So we offered her one of her favorite foods , cooked beans but to our surprise, she refused to eat. Instead, she started walking around the house, still making that same meowing sound as if she was trying to tell us something important. Image generated from freepik.com

Meanwhile, my mum was busy looking for her toothpaste so she could brush her teeth and leave for the market. The cat kept following her around the house, crying. Mum kept ignoring the cat and focused on getting ready. She searched everywhere for the toothpaste and even asked us to help, but none of us could find it. She didn’t want to buy a new one because she was sure we still had an unused one at home and didn’t want to leave that way. Eventually, she gave up and left without brushing, deciding to go like that since she was already late.

Later that moment, my mum ended up buying a smaller toothpaste and came back home to use it. Surprisingly, the cat was still following her around, meowing non-stop. None of us could understand what was really going on. As soon as she finished getting ready and headed back out to the market, something terrifying happened. There was a very loud sound that shook the ground. People were confused and panicking, trying to figure out what had happened.

Then the news broke the popular Nyanya Market had been bombed. Many innocent lives were lost that day. Over 90 people died according to the bodies counted that were taken in ambulance but major new sites said it was 18. (an eye witness)

But thankfully, my mum was spared. She hadn’t made it to the market in time, all because of the small delay caused by the toothpaste and our unusual cat’s behavior. When she returned home safely, we all realized something: the cat had been trying to warn us. It was like she could sense the danger before it happened. That moment changed the way we saw animals forever. They truly have a special way of seeing and feeling things we humans may not understand. So, if I were to choose a pet today, I would definitely choose a cat and not just any cat, but a female one. Male cats tend to roam around and may not stay close, especially when they find a female cat they like. But female cats, from my experience, are more homely and spiritually connected.

Thanks so much for reading this post. Until I come your way next time bye for now!

It is true that kitties can sense when something is about to happen. I'm glad everything turned out okay. Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day!

I think it's why most women share with cats of almost that level of Intuition and instinct.
On the west coast of Canada we get the odd earth quake tremors but we notice it in our pets, especially cats.

I'm happy nothing happened to your mum. I agree with you that the🐈 cat have sense it but could not communicate so that you guys will understand her.

You know even in human beings females sense things More than males.

Cats and dogs appear to sense unusual or possible problems, giving warning like this does make one more aware to listen to our pets in the home.
