At my age, there are several things that can stress me out because, as a retiree, I no longer have the constant contact with co-workers or the daily hustle and bustle that used to make my life more dynamic. Now everything is calmer and quieter, but sometimes that same tranquility, not being able to do some things or the more frequent health problems stress me out.

The same thing happens to me with my pension, which is not enough for much, or the crisis problems we have around here.

But, the good thing I have is that I am my psychologist and, when I get stressed, I resort to different formulas that have given me good results. This has been a practice in my life, when something has not gone well and I get depressed.

Without further ado, here are my ways to get out of stress.

Trip to the beach

If there is one thing that relaxes me, it is the beach. It must be that conjunction between breeze, warm weather, water, human warmth and everything else that can be appreciated in one of these places. In my case, I have had the privilege of being in the best resorts in Cuba, such as Varadero and Guardalavaca, but I always say that they are not the only beautiful beaches in my country. And, although I'm not a model or anything like that anymore, I enjoy the beach very much and it relaxes me in an incredible way.

Talking to plants

I have always loved having plants, especially on my terrace, porch and other spaces where I can grow them.

I like to talk to the plants and listen to their problems. They say I'm a little crazy because plants don't talk, but I understand when they ask me for water, when a foreign body bothers them or when they are sick and I have to do something to relieve them.

In addition to the above, I like to have cactus, flowers and medicinal plants that, many times, have become my saviors because their healing properties take care of my health.

Physical exercises with dance

Despite my health problems, doing physical exercises relaxes me and helps me to get out of my depression. But, what I always or almost always try to do is to combine exercise with dancing and I assure you that I have my perfect combination.

It's true that I don't wait until I'm stressed to do physical exercises, but, when I'm at a low point, emotionally I turn to this therapy and the result is spectacular.

A mi edad, varias son las cosas que pueden estresarme porque, como jubilada, ya no tengo ese roce continuo con compañeros de trabajo ni los ajetreos cotidianos que le imprimían más dinamismo a mi vida. Ahora todo es más sosegado y tranquilo, pero, a veces, esa misma tranquilidad, el no poder hacer algunas cosas o los problemas de salud más seguidos me estresan.

Lo mismo me sucede con mi pensión que no me alcanza para mucho o los problemas de crisis que tenemos por estos lares.

Pero, lo bueno que tengo es que soy mi sicóloga y, cuando me estreso, acudo a diferentes fórmulas que me han dado buenos resultados. Lo anterior, ha sido práctica de mi vida, cuando algo no me ha salido bien y me deprimo.

Sin más, aquí les dejo mis maneras de salir del estrés.

Viaje a la playa

Si hay que me relaja es la playa. Debe ser esa conjunción entre brisa, clima cálido, agua, calor humano y todo lo demás que se puede apreciar en uno de estos lugares. En mi caso, he tenido el privilegio de estar en los mejores balnearios de Cuba, como Varadero y Guardalavaca, pero, siempre digo que no son las únicas playas hermosas de mi país. Y, aunque ya no soy una modelo ni nada por el estilo, disfruto de la playa muchísimo y me relaja de una manera increíble.

Conversando con las plantas

Siempre me ha gustado tener plantas, sobre todo, en mi terraza, portal y otros espacios donde pueda cultivarlas.

Me gusta conversar con las plantas y escuchar sus problemas. Dicen que estoy medio loa porque las plantas no hablan, pero entiendo cuando me piden agua, cuando un cuerpo extraño las molesta o cuando están enfermas y debo hacer algo para aliviarlas.

Además de lo anterior, me gusta tener cactus, flores y plantas medicinales que, muchas veces, se han convertido en mis salvadoras porque sus propiedades curativas cuidan de mi salud.

Ejercicios físicos con baile

A pesar de mis problemas de salud, hacer ejercicios físicos me relaja y me ayuda a salir e la depresión. Pero, lo que siempre o casi siempre trato de hacer es combinar el ejercicio con el baile y les aseguro que tengo mi combinación perfecta.

Es verdad que no espero a estar estresada para hacer ejercicios físicos, pero, cuando estoy en un punto bajo, emocionalmente acudo a esta terapia y el resultado es espectacular.

Being a retiree does not mean you don't stress. I know as my husband is retired, and I almost think he stresses more now than when he worked!
