RE: Ecological Fashion 🧵✂️ A Culture of Care and Repair

in ecoTrain24 days ago

Very true and lovely video and narration dearest @calendulacraft not much nowadays are keen on repairing clothes, fashion is the culprit. I do find it more satisfying making clothes wearable again by mending them. Possibly most people don't give time or have no time and patience in doing them or possibly don't know how to do them? It is a skill we need to teach the younger ones. Also, some materials some clothes are made of are not worth repairing, they have poor quality and buying them will be much cheaper. So many factors. The old clothes seemed to have better quality materials, built to last and when there's a problem we fix them. Now it seems all evolved in business and moneymaking which is a little bit annoying, quality is not the same anymore. 🩷

I totally agree. Most clothes these days are partially elastic which wears out quickly and isn't really worth repairing. I hope that as minimalism becomes more and more popular people will opt for less clothing but of higher quality that they will feel inclined to repair.

I'm on my road to minimalism though I find it hard to discard some clothing, few of them have sentimental value but some pont in life we have to let go or we can't carry on and experience new. Minimalism gives a clearer mind, the more you own, the more hassle. Keeping the body healthy is a wealth, more important than material things. 🩷

I feel the same. I am more of a materialist in the sense that the materials in my life add a lot of happiness, especially those that have a story or were passed to me from ancestors or even just a close friend. There is a lot to learn from minimalism and keeping a home that only "sparks joy". I think there is a way to hold on to items that are important and sentimental without filling the home with junk.

Absolutely, anything that sparks joy is kept. You're on the right track. 🩷😊
