It is a way to welcome the 8th incarnation of Sri Vishnu, in the form of Sri Krishna.

Wishing you all, Happy Jamashtami. An auspicious and special day in Hinduism to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.

Janmashtami, Hindu festival celebrating the birth (janma) of the god Krishna on the eighth (ashtami) day of the dark fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada (August–September).

Though, Covid-19 does spoil the spirit of celebration this year, still we made sure to do our best at home. It is an important festival particularly to the Vaishnavism tradition of Hinduism. On this day, people celebrate by keeping Fasting and also Praying.

There is a long story behind the birth of Lord Krishna, who is considered to be the Eighth Avatar of Sri Vishnu. As we celebrating at home we made sure we should not fell less of all arrangement.

The festival does have a special significance and celebration style in Mathura and Vrindavan. Krishna’s childhood and early youth place.

On the day prior to Janamashthami, devotees keep a strict fast until midnight. It was the traditional hour of birth of Lord Krishna.

To start the prayer proceeding, the small idol of Krishna which we call Laddoo Gopal is bathed in pious water (sacred Ganga water) and milk, dressed in new clothes, and worshipped. Here are few sequential picture which may help you understand the prayer proceedings.

After dressing the little Kanha, we place them in the cradle. Properly decorated and offered fruits and sweets to the god, which we call Prasada. This are actually god’s leftovers, which carry his favour were then distributed to all the members of the household.

Hindu sacred book Bhagvad Gita says that whenever there wil be any dominance of evil in the society and the decline of the religion, Lord Vishnu will reincarnate in this world to kill and remove the evil and also to protect the good. The main significance of this Krishna Janamaahtmi festival lies in encouraging the goodwill and discouraging the bad will.

The devotees do prayers after offering the Prasad and then breaks their fasting, with these Prasada and distribute them to others.

This way, we end up celebrating the festival of the Divine Lord Krishna

Hope everyone receive his blessing on this special occasion.

Peace

Hare Krishna, I'm so happy to meet another Vaishnava here on Hive. I was initiated into the Vaishnava sampradaya or guru parampara in 1989, and spent some months in Vrindavana Mathura dham back then, training under the guru at the Krishna Balaram Mandir. My initiated name is Jasomatinandan Das, and I am a disciple of A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami via his other disciples. I used to be head pujari and temple manger for the Cape Town branch of ISKCON in the nineties, and am impressed with your puja there for Janmasthami.
