Two Eco Apps I've Tried

in ecoTrain2 months ago

Hello friends! I'm here with a couple of apps I've been using to help plant trees, clean up plastic pollution, and contribute to carbon offset programs.

The first is called Commons. If you're a shopper, there are a lot of recommendations for greener options you can search, but even with spending no money, you can still do things. There are different challenges to do, such as last month the goal was to not shop at Amazon all month. You can also track your carbon footprint, if you are willing to connect your spending cards to the app (so it's only counting the spending on that card). So I don't spend much, but it sees me pay my electric bill, for example, and gives me an estimate based on that spend.

You earn "seeds" for doing different challenges or donating to green organizations or shopping at greener brands, and you can use them either for discounts at aforementioned eco-friendlier brands, or you can put them toward carbon offsets:

They have five different carbon offset programs they support, which seen legit and not fakey in my opinion. I even saw a docu about one of them a while back (using weathered rocks in agriculture) that seemed quite interesting.

So I used my seeds to contribute to those programs, and based off their estimates, that's probably a couple of months of my electric bill offset. Cool, and free for me.

The other app is called Treecard, which again has a "shop at green brands for points" option, but also a free option, where you connect it to Google Fit app and track your steps. 10,000 steps = one tree planted!

You can use their points as before for discounts, or the donate option here is to contribute to cleaning up ocean plastic projects. So you can see here I've planted two trees and picked four bottles worth of plastic out of the ocean.

I like these apps as an everyday way to do a little bit of help for the environment. Without spending any money, I've still gotten some worthy projects funded. I hope you like them too!

Thanks for reading and have a good week!

The apps must be very good and I like the fact that we don’t have to make any form of payment
Nice one!

I discovered that I have a referral for Treecard for anyone interested: we both will get one free tree planted plus 50 points (which is halfway to making a contribution toward plastic cleanup) if you use it. It's: wren-fsq
