Potting Up Seedlings, Mandolin Practice, Gate, Dinner, BIF Bean - Monday

in ecoTrain3 years ago

The boys had the day off from school yesterday which made for quite the noisy house most of the day. It was nice though to be back on the regular schedule though as we were out soaking nice and early.

While the boys were still sleeping I managed to find a bunch of mandolin books and videos to download and surprisingly had them fairly fast. The download has me a ton of good info and I ended up spending time in the mandolin song book working the various song tabs.

I found myself sitting on the Caledonian Laddie for a while working on the first couple of lines. I am gradually getting my fingers to hit the correct frets and am not having to look as closely at my picking hand. I am nowhere near as fast as the music but it is a good challenge for me.

Today I get one of my books and my tuner which I look forward to using to get the thing dialed in. I am sure it is a bit off with my ancient tuner I have.

In the tent I added a table for everything to sit on. It raises the trays up from near the floor and into the warmer area of the tent. I have an old card table frame that has been sitting around for years and I found that it is less than 3ft square so it fit perfectly in the tent. I have a couple of pieces of wood from a shelving unit that fit perfectly as well.

Some of my wintergreen lettuce was large enough to pot up and 3 spots of wild garden kales. One of the kales had a bunch of sprouts in it that got split into 3 pots. I have good organic soil to plant in so they should have enough nutrients to make it through their growth cycle.

The peppers will need to be potted up soon but I need to be ultra careful with them to make sure not to harm the roots in any way else they will get stunted.

I got my @bifbeans order last week while we were at the Tool concert and I finally decided on the bean I am trying first. The Kung Poa has a nice short cycle of 90 days and looks to be a killer strain.

The chosen one.

It went into a 2 gallon pot where it will stay for it's life. I wallowed out a little area in the center for seeds starting mix and watered it in well.

On the gate on the deck I had to install much longer screws on the bottom bracket. When I looked at the ones that were in it the self drilling part of the screw and one thread was all that was holding in place. I have 1.5 inch screws in it now and it is super solid.

I made a spanish rice dish for dinner with ground beef in it. As per the norm R didn't like the meal but he'll be getting it for lunch today after school.

I got some more practice in on the mando after dinner.

The evening soak had me out of the water a little after 9 pm. My body had gotten quite warm and needed the break.

Both boys have school today and J is already gone, this afternoon my tuner will get here and I can fine tune my mando, I have to bring up a bag of salt to spread on the sheet of ice around the farm so we don't slip and break something, and I would like to clean the deck up as it has gotten a bit cluttered.

nice share! i never saw heating pads being used before.. is that what they are under the seedlings? Looks like a nice way to get them growing and happy if its a bit cold.. keep em coming!

Yep, seed heat mats are super useful. People use them in greenhouses, tents, racks, you name it. It gets the soil to 70-80F to speed germination. This is the first year I have one as they were always too pricey for me but now with my tent I need it.

So it begins. Happy growing!

I'm super stoked to have new genetics! Looking forward to outdoor season!

This is really good 👍👍

Looks like you had a full day :-D

Bif Is good genetics. Happy growing

Still not made a seed order, probably not get most of what I order when i finally get to it.

You never know, I'm only seeing a few things out of stock where I get my seeds so you may still have a good chance.
