Welcome back to this new QOTW, and what a question I have for you this week! This is a question that is sure to stimulate those brain cells, and really get you thinking. This question is not one that i have thought about before, and yet it brings up a very perplexing conundrum. Many of us believe in destiny, knowing deep down that certain events in our lives were just meant to happen, and perhaps even more than that, there is nothing we can do to change it. I’m sure many of us have uttered the phrase, "It was my destiny", whether it be a huge event such as meeting a life partner, or something smaller like making a new friend randomly. I would say that believing in destiny is quite a spiritual feeling because it implies some kind of higher power or world beyond the one we know. How something can become our destiny is not something we can really understand without logical mind. The same can be said for Karma, which implies some kind of universal balancing act that gives us back what we put out, and one could say what we deserve. I wonder, just who is doing all this judging? Is it something external to us, like God, sitting there judging every act each of us makes. Or, perhaps its just built into the very fabric of this universe, and in a way we could say we are responsible for creating our Karma. Who knows what powers lurk behind the illusion of our limited human mortality.The question is, if both of these things are real, Destiny and Karma, how can they exist together?

If we make choices that are very bad Karmically, surely our destiny would also be altered? How does this work? Does destiny shift and morph as we live our lives, or are our whole lives predestined, including what we do and how we act? Is Karma the action of the universe in response to our own actions, or perhaps its something else. I remember reading some very wise words once, which may be relevant here. It was a sign in a museum of all world religions. It said " Karma is not what happens to you, but is how you respond to what happens to you?" This is a very interesting idea, and one that takes some pondering to fully appreciate. Perhaps it doesn’t matter as much what we do, or better said, perhaps what we do is not as free as we think, but instead how we feel about what happens to us is a very personal and free choice.

I hope that gives you some food for thought. This is very deep question, and i invite you to answer it in any way that relates to your experience of life. We always like to hear personal stories, so if you have had an experience relating to either of these please share it. Maybe your life is like a Karmic marry go round and you have experienced either incredible good or bad luck. Maybe you discovered a link to how you have reacted to life, and maybe you have managed to turn it around? Is everything that happens a response to the never ending cycles of life and evolution, and what do we really choose in each moment. Do we choose what we do or do we choose how we react and feel about it? Whatever your thoughts we always want to hear what you think! If you think both Karma and destiny are totally made up then feel free to share that perspective. All perspectives are welcomed!
