in ecoTrain3 years ago

Welcome to this living sustainably curation from the ecoTrain community! Its great to see more and more people start to choose to live in a way that brings much more happiness and abundance to ourselves and our community and planet! Living sustainably and off grid is an exciting and rewarding lifestyle that brings with it many challenges and life lessons. Learning from each other is one of the best ways to get inspired and try new things, and this weeks curation brings together many elements of living sustainably. Thank you to everyone who has posted their own experiences and information, it is so inspiring to see people improve their lives in this way. It is not always easy, and none of us know it all, so this is a great opportunity to see how each of us is living and learning.

This week I have chosen nine posts that shine and I think can be really interesting as well as useful for many of us on this path! Also if you haven't spotted this weeks QOTW, there is still plenty of time to post! The question this week is ' DO YOU BELIEVE IN DESTINY OR KARMA? CAN BOTH BE TRUE? ' So far the #qotw is buzzing with over 55 of you responding already with your own stories and perspectives! Please do join us and share as it seems so many of us have experienced a miracle at some point in our lives. More info in the post here.

Exploring the ECOBANK land and making trails 10 Comments / 6 reblogs / 30+ views

Working hard - and there is a lot to do! If we can dream it, we can do it - and right now these magical tokens are making it seem like we can do it right now!

Well I've been dreaming of a better world for nearly my whole life.

So I gassed up the car last week and took the lawyer, the project manager and a new friend down to the land with some fresh machetes, a bit like a corporate minga. We had a look at the land, natural restoration already in full swing, and started opening up the paths to see where the buildings might go.

I'm Finally Here! - The Beginning Of A New Chapter

I have finally made it to the land. Not quiet to the spot where I will park up long term, but I am parked up on the new land. After 5 weeks of living next to a track, the master cylinder arrived (only after being ordered for the second time, mind), it was fitted and it moved.

Anytime I talked about where the truck needed to go, people seemed to be very skeptical about whether or not it would make it there. All thanks to a very tight bend, that has prevented other trucks from entering and exiting this valley.

But it made it and in a couple of days it will be parked up in that spot above. For now, we are parked just inside the gate. As the land was watered recently and I need to wait for the earth to dry, so that I can drive down to the terrace that will be my home for the next wee while at least.

My calm: working the land 💚 [ENG-SPA]

Since 2017 I started to improve habits in my life, I had the insistent need to feel lighter in this journey of life. I needed to build a space for myself, for my breathing practices and my meditation moments, these days I had visited the garden of an Austrian neighbor who had bonsais and orchids everywhere, I was so fascinated that I wanted to have my own space, like hers (although hers was a huge garden and she had many years planting).

I started to sow, harvest and grow plants in pots, at this time I did not have direct spaces in the ground to sow, nor any kind of garden, only a reduced space on the roof of the house, still this was not an obstacle for me, nor for my dream of having my small garden.

I started to take seeds from fruits and vegetables, I asked my friends who had gardens to give me plants or seeds, I also bought some seeds, then at home I spent a lot of time watching videos on the internet, I had a lot of gardening books that I only discovered in the library when I started to be interested in planting, I became self-taught in this subject, I even started to create manuals with photos and step by step to share my passion with close friends.

We should have to stop using plastic before it gets too late.

In today's time, plastic is being used everywhere, people are using it non-stop only for their Comfort.I do not think that all the people of us who are reading this blog will be such a person who does not use plastic. But we will have to realise and understand this that plastic harming our planet very badly we need to be aware of the consequences so for that reason we can stop using plastics Our present generation has become accustomed to using plastic but by telling our future generation about the harmful effects of plastic we can easily break the chain of using plastic But to understand our future generation, we have to understand ourselves that how much plastic damages us and our environment....

The transition from agricultural systems to agroecology

Dear readers, achieving a sustainable agricultural system is one of the current objectives that we have worldwide, to achieve a more environmentally friendly design and management is the challenge that producers and professionals in the area, For no one it is a secret that to be able to concretize paradigm must be implemented strategies that allow a change from the conventional to the ecological, this process can be called transition. For this reason, the present publication analyzed some aspects related to sustainability as a process of change of the current agricultural situation.

To begin with it is necessary to mention that in modern agriculture there is a low level of natural diversity, a situation that can be evidenced by any person at first sight without being very expert in the area since, there is a predominance in the agricultural fields of monoculture (a single crop), losing the balance of agro-ecosystems because it does not depend on internal natural mechanisms or processes but on external elements from technological packages such as agrochemicals, which cause output to increase in the short term but in the medium and long term lose productive or adaptive capacity if these external resources are not used.

Most of the chemicals produced are unsustainable

We are all aware of the problems arising from the production of many chemicals that have become really necessary for modern society, as they contribute in various ways to maintain the standard of living we lead, just mention how fuels, plastics, pharmaceuticals, detergents, insecticides and fertilizers, among others, have become essential components for society.

But while most of the chemical products we use every day have contributed to improving our living conditions, the fact is that they have had a strong impact on the planet, and now the chemical industry must face the difficult challenge of changing to more sustainable models and maintaining competitive products in the market.

And the transition to sustainable models that include circular economy models, waste recycling and the use or capture of the CO2 produced will require more efficient indicators to guide the selection of the technologies that offer the best performance with the lowest possible rate of emissions and waste.

[Eng-Esp] Let's Raise Chickens, A New Project Idea

During the last five years I have dedicated myself to the breeding of farmyard animals, goats and sheep is the branch to which I have applied myself, although the work is quite arduous, the achievements we have had are quantifiable.

We started with a mestizo or Creole breed, little by little we have been improving the genetics, the flock has been growing, to the point that today we have 29 milking goats, 42 sheep and 24 calves between the two species.

Although the growth is sustainable and the business is maintained today, this is a long-term activity, it is an area that needs constancy, dedication and discipline, without a doubt with these three virtues the fruits would be irrefutable.

But today I do not want to talk about this business model, I want to tell you about a plan that I have in mind and that I am sure I will achieve, one of the animal breeding activities that I like and that its economic results are excellent, is the breeding of chickens and hence, my publication today.

We built a stair with branches and saved ourselves 83 dollars in a few hours

We've been making some progress with our new construction, though it might not look like much, it is a lot to get your basic structure put together with hand tools. And unlike most YouTubers that build things for show, we intend to live there, so there are many details to pay attention to.

With many of the main pillars in place, we wanted to check if the main beams we had cut would fit the scheme. That's when we found out that the weight didn't allow us to lift them comfortably all the way up, and that normal ladders didn't allow us to do it well either. We decided to modify a small one built by @choli, and add enough structure so that it would be able to support itself wherever we needed to place it.

No, wait, rewind. First we thought of buying a metal folding stair, but the prices begin at approximately 83 USD. Obviously that's not very expensive but we're trying to save money for the rooftop materials which are the ones that are most needed in a cold region such as this one. We would love to go bushcraft all the way, but that would take an enormous amount of time to gather enough stuff that could do a solid job at making the house impermeable. In the future things can be done differently as we will already have somewhere to sleep comfortably in. For now we put the our time into building the stair that will save us quite a few bucks.
