@ecoTrain Sustainable and Holistic Living Curation: 1 February 2022

in ecoTrain3 years ago

Welcome to February and the first Sustainable curation of the month! In this curation I have chosen several homesteading posts from the ecoTrain community as well as a few hand picked nuggets. We support posts on so many topics and that includes lifestyle and personal development posts as well as more obvious topics such as gardening and healthy eating.

Thank you to all of you who do share your posts with us at the ecoTrain community. It's great to see a pretty diverse range of posts, and many in which you really share your own personal stories and life activities. Many of you are living off grid and sustainably and so it makes me happy to see your continued posts and sharings about your own personal life and challenges.. and of course how you overcome them! This week I have chosen nine posts that shine and I think can be really interesting as well as useful for many of us on this path!

Also if you haven't spotted this weeks QOTW, there is still plenty of time to post! The question this week is ' Can Spirituality and Technology Live Together? ' So far the #qotw is buzzing with over 50 of you responding already with your own miraculous stories! Please do join us and share as it seems so many of us have experienced a miracle at some point in our lives. More info in the post here.

Exploring The Natural Beauty Of Where I live And An Exciting New Project That Is Really Beginning To Take Shape!

I live in such a beautiful place. I just, have to step outside my Truck and I am surrounded by beauty. Although I have been feeling frustrated lately, due to my move being put on hold and being stuck at the boat in quite an open and public place, it is still in nature. And at this time of the year, as everything begins to spring back into life, it does wonders to lift my spirits and remind me how fortunate I really am. I mean, just look at that Almond tree in full blossom! How stunning is that pink, against the blue sky!

oday I went for a walk with my youngest daughter. Instead of walking on the track, we decided to walk in amongst the river bed. The river here is pretty small and doesn't always flow, even at this time of the year. But it is a wonderful place to explore and it is right next to where we are parked up.

Hay, Madness Anger Frustration, Practice, Bison Steaks - Sunday

Yesterday started out okay. I was outside soaking while everyone else slept. I needed to be ready to head north to get a big bale of hay at 10. I already had the trailer hooked up to the truck so it was not long before I was on the road. I got the bale loaded on the trailer and made it back to the farm where I managed to spend an hour trying to get the trailer to back up across the sheet of ice that the yard has become. Intense anger and frustration built as I fought to get the truck and trailer unstuck. I eventually got to the point of jacking the trailer up with the floor jack and reinstalling the trailer jack that had fallen off.

I have no possible means of moving the trailer now since the ice is soo shitty everywhere in the yard. I am likely going to back the truck up to the back side of the trailer and load as much of the bale as I can into it then I can dump it in the pen. I am still super pissed about this and I am beyond done with the ice block this yard becomes in the winter.

I Almost Donated A ~22 OUNCE Sterling Silver Antique From Austria/Late 1800's I Salvaged From The Curbs

I found a stash of silver-plated ice buckets on the curbs when salvaging items from recycling bags a few years ago. Most notable was a Christofle ice bucket stamped with large Grand Marnier logo. What made this amazing was that it was also stamped with the Hotel Ritz in France with a serial number.

After bringing this to a Christofle store, their expert researched the serial number and confirmed that this was from 1898, and issued for the Hotel Ritz's grand opening in Paris. Woah!

I still haven't listed this yet as it's quite a treasure to me. It may be worth $500 to some, or $1,000 to others, but I want to contact the Hotel Ritz in Paris about it to see if they'd like to bring it back. I figure that the Grand Marnier branding would also raise its value.

While I found several other branded antique ice buckets/champagne buckets with this, a simple yellowed metal serving tray stamped with a cafe's name from Wien, Austria was also in the batch. I almost left it, but did take it since it felt wrong to put it back. I knew it was old.

Cariaco corn-based atol with cambur. Nutritious, natural and lactose-free drink

Hello dear community of @ecotrain. Today I want to share with you a traditional Venezuelan drink based on a type of white corn with a pleasant flavor: cariaco corn. It is common in Venezuelan homes to have and often consume this type of corn that is roasted, ground and some eat it in powdered form with sugar, others make it in drinks such as: shakes, chichas, caratos and atol. We like to use it in atol, I also add it to pancakes and arepas. I recommend using it for snacks or to accompany breakfast or dinner. This recipe is nutritious and energizing for the body. This time I am going to prepare it without milk or white sugar. This way I can consume it and it will not affect my colon and its caloric content will be lower. The atol recipe is very simple.

Off to the Ranch #14: Corny jokes & planting corn

There's corn in my compost! There's a freakin' corn in my compost!!! I'm a feudal lord, an agricultural genius, a corn baron, a plantation master. I'm gonna rule the corn world with iron hands. {tape rewind sound}. – Hold yer horses skinny farmer. It's one single corn stalk you've got there.

A single corn, true. But it's my first corn. And it's alive. I haven't done anything really and still wonder how a corn stalk germinated in my compost. Perhaps it came with the chicken manure I mixed in there? Let me talk about it, because I'm pretty excited.

I shall name it Cornelius.

As corny as it may sound, I'm truly happy to have found and saved Cornelius. I can safely say I'm a stalk investor now and shall hodl until the end. A-maize-ing experience. I'm even considering dropping meat at all to become corn-nivore. Plans to buy a house in the Silli-corn Valley might materialize after this investment. I've been in love with that mansion near corner.

Non Final Bathroom Update

Finishing things is the hardest part, mostly because things never finish, there is seemingly always more to do! I feel a bit that way about our new bathroom, if you've been following along you know it should be finished right now. And it is! Except for all the unfinished things! Here's this part, all pretty and whatnot, but I'm going to have to push the floor out one more tile, and likely extend the roof. Its an easy enough addon with three guys and the material ready - the rainy season is just too strong here and we need more runway. Also looks like the roof supports would be happy to get baked into a bit of the floor addition, and I've already got plenty of rocks stomped in to probably make a pretty stable addition. Not sure when I'll get around to this, its definitively in the middle of my to-do list right now.

Fukushima, an ecological disaster that is still happening.

Hello dear friends of ecotrain, I hope you are very well. Today I want to talk to you about the Fukishima nuclear disaster, a tragedy that although it does not get as much press as it should, and is not remembered or recreated in TV series, it is one of the worst ecological disasters in recent history, and the second largest nuclear disaster in history, only behind Chernobyl. In fact, on the conventional scale for measuring the size of a nuclear disaster, the Fukushima-Daiichi plant has a category of 7, the same as the Chernobyl disaster, and even today, after more than 10 years, it may become an ecological disaster on a global scale that would make the environmental problems we are going through even more difficult.

Mutual empowerment: A Guide to Making the BEST of your DAY.

There are thousands of books out there on creating the life you want to live on your own terms. What I want to do here, is create a sort of guide and community where we can put together all the wisdom and knowledge we come across. This will be all information that can help one become the best YOU, and will empower one to really go after a passion with full force.

CAN WE REALLY HELP ONE ANOTHER ACHIEVE OUR DREAMS?

I think it's more than possible. Between all of us who have read self-help books and have had experiences that prove that dreams do come true, we can create a hell of a community. Perhaps we need to find an existing group to join, that is already on the same frequencies. @naturalmedicine is such a group actually, and so is @ecotrain. I have been a member of these two communities for a long time, but I find myself lost in all the different ways to communicate with one another and I think I try to involve myself in too many different projects, spreading myself thin… With that comes the real life aspect of involving myself in too many things too!!!

WINTER STORM DESTROYS OUR GARDEN

After the destruction comes time to rebuild, and that time for us is now... Recently, we had some consecutive days of heavy snow, which lead to several things in our garden being crushed under the weight. A few structures and multiple plants are now is need of removal, heavy pruning, and rebuilding. Hopefully, the worst is past us now. Enjoy the show!
