Born into a world of box shaped homes and standardized everything I have been searching for a more organic life. And now that I am spending my afternoons building my own homestead, it sis the organic shape of it the walls that I most enjoy.
We are building with a combination of natural building techniques >>> a wooden frame, some quincha, and (my favorite) cob.
This type of building is low in material costs as the materials (besides the wood & nails) are recyled or come from the local landscape. Natural building is, however, expensive as far as time goes. Each wall is shaped by our hands and requires many hours to complete.
I will admit, the slow pace of this build can be frustrating at times. When I grow impatient I remind myself of the simple beauty of these natural lines and curves. Then, my mindset shifts completely! Growing up I felt enclosed in blank walls painted with artificial colors. The colors of these walls can't be found in a paint store, they a reflection of this land, and that is just so mystical to me.
Building your own home must feel incredibly fulfilling—being able to live in a space you've crafted yourself, surrounded by everything you appreciate. I love the details and the colors; those bottles really stand out. No artificial or toxic ingredients—definitely good for health. To me that's amazing! 😊🩷
Aw, thank you!!! I am really excited to see how different I feel living there vs. the dark and dank place I live in now. Still, plenty to do between now and then ⚡️
I always wonder how cob goes with rain, do you have to protect it any way?
I'm very excited to see the finished building one day 🤗
Love the look of those glass (bottle) windows!💙
That is my favorite part too!!
