Mostly agree, @antisocialist. Only the "we can always buy more hive" part doesn't fly for everyone; I know it doesn't for me. On the contrary even: with great pain I had to sell some of the Hive not too long ago due to a personal emergency. Because of the 13 week withdrawal buffer I had plenty time to come up with another solution, but still wasn't able to find one. That hurt and was something I'd never thought I'd do. But hey, life happens. Thanks again for your support!
There are some incredibly strange people with some very twisted ideas and agendas on this platform (all platforms). It is best not to get too dragged into it emotionally at the very least, though it can be interesting to be a part of some of those conversations.
Take it all with a grain of salt.
One of the great things here is not only can you speak your mind, it is also all securely stored for future reference. This includes all of the horrible stuff too. I would say that when they look back on their past, they would be ashamed, but I suspect they are so narcissistic that they will never be able to find that depth of personal reflection.
I am idealistic too, but I have worked at embracing the small slice of pragmatist in me, and see that this is all a work in progress and bit by bit, we are moving in the right direction, despite some of the people who we meet along the way.
Indeed there are some "incredibly strange people with some very twisted ideas and agendas", @tarazkp, not only on this platform but all over the internet. What I found so disturbing about that post though, was that the guy didn't seem mentally challenged at all, that he reached his crazy conclusions "honestly" if you know what I mean. Many comments hinted at him having lost his mind or something, but he hadn't; he stood behind his conclusions even after hundreds of very reasonable arguments against them. I'm no stranger to this phenomenon, as I've written a lot about the power of conspiracy theories and our natural capacity for cognitive dissonance and confirmation-bias, both being responsible for and amplified by the echo-chambers we all build around ourselves to a lesser or greater extent. Many people who've gone too deep into that rabbit-hole can't be reached anymore; they're lost to us for any reasonable exchange of ideas. I guess this was the first time I "saw it happen" in real-time, not just targeting a topic, but real people. It's my own fault I guess: I don't engage nearly enough with other people's content on Hive since the demise of @helpie :-( I do upvote posts from people I trust (you guys are now added there too), but that's all automated. Maybe I need to make more time...
Anyhow, ranting again... Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and respond!
Many people who've gone too deep into that rabbit-hole can't be reached anymore;
Or, they are comfortable there, they make it part of their identity, who they are. It is like how "truth seekers" identify as such, yet have no direct experience about what they are talking about, it is all second, third and fourth hand hearsay that they have "confirmed" on the internet. They don't want to leave that safe space they have created, where real experience and evidence is not needed.
Maybe I need to make more time...
There are a lot of great people here as well, so I think that if you do make time to explore a bit, you will find that there are a lot of normal people who have passions and skills in the real world too - people who don't have to just write from second-hand experience and make up stories for attention :)
"They" are comfortable there. It's kind of warming and comfortable to belong to a "special" group with "special" people who have "special" knowledge, and the search-algorithms on the internet make it that much easier to find your own special group. It's only ironic that "they" label themselves as "truth-seekers".
I've taken the time to read your last post, part 3 in your endless discussion with your little girl; much respect @tarazkp ! Keeping that record will do the both of you a world of good. Whoever you were before "the event", you certainly haven't lost your way with words; that was a moving and pleasant read and I hope I'll catch the next part in time to give it the proper appreciation!
Was a very strange thing that happened. I think they call it a meltdown for a reason. You melt, you go down. I try to stop folks when I can. Perhaps the old books describing hell were trying to explain to people what happens when one starts living a lie. Their lives become a living hell and it just gets worse for them. Hard to watch but at the same time when you've become a target, there is peace to be found knowing the world has a fancy way of sorting these things out on its own.
Love the etymology on "meltdown" there, @nonameslefttouse :-) I think you're right: "Hell is Other People"; don't remember whose quote that is, but it applies here I guess. Still, like you say, it's hard sometimes to see people lose touch with reality like that. Thanks so much for the response, I really appreciate it.
This world is twisted. I don't even subscribe to any of that left/right political shit. I've lost track though of the amount of times I've been accused of believing something I don't even give two shits or a single fuck about. It's beyond annoying. But when people do it, that's opening a window to their mind and I can see all their thoughts. I'd never give someone that much leverage. More fun watching them become confused and not know how to think. Fish out of water.
As soon as I see groups forming around ideas, I see a cult, and I'm gone. Needless to say, I don't make too many friends these days... lol
It's a twisted world indeed :-) And I must say that I'm guilty as well of labeling people along the left/right spectrum. For example, the Democrats aren't "left" in my mind... But you're right: it's presumptuous to do so without knowing anything about the one(s) being labeled. I've read your last post as well, the one where you present Blue Bear to the world, some 4 months ago. It's not my personal taste, but I can see how many others would love that art (just look at the comments you got). Has to be said though that I know nothing about art... What I do love, however, is your writing and humor.
If you'll permit me, I'll tell you something about myself with regards to smoking; I'm 54 years old, and I started vaping some 4 years ago, quit smoking weed and tobacco. I'm happier as is everyone around me; no more yellow walls, fingers, teeth and curtains, no more constant coughing, no more ashtrays, no more burn-holes in clothing and furniture and so on. On the flip-side, no one knows for sure yet what the long-term health indications will be; I'm part of a large group of human guinea pigs now... Do with that what you will @nonameslefttouse :-) I hope you'll keep on posting!
That post covers a few issues though. Like how some assumed I had taken a vaccine and treated me how they treat people who take vaccines. That was another great example of how I could sit back and know how dishonest and shady the individual accusing me of things actually is. It opens the window plus I don't need to argue in order to prove myself, flex, or pledge any kind of allegiance. I can just be.
And I'm pissed off, because of wtp, gullible people are still picking up that nonsense and rubbing it in my face. Because of that his penalties increased now though but he should have known that from the start. Told him his lies will haunt him for the rest of his life. And I wasn't kidding.
These vapes are awesome. Currently puffing on some grape nicotine. It does feel better, by far.
Just amazing that you could get away with that slander with just a few downvotes but the fact that that post is still accessible on different frontends on the blockchain just proves even the inconvenient parts about free speech is open to all. Had the same stunt been pulled on something like Twitter, it would have probably been taken down and content accessible to different independent archives, the user deplatformed and people go their own merry way. That episode is just one of the many dramas that happen here and there's going to be plenty of that if Hive scales up accommodating more users. I support free speech even on ways where I just can't agree with the other.
Somehow, seeing your handle gives me flashbacks to "Battlestar Galactica" (the original series), @adamada :-) Yes, I love the fact that what's on the blockchain stays on the blockchain, and we'll all react differently to our own old content too, I guess. Personally I'm grateful that I (and everyone else) can see how I've changed my mind on some topics, how I'm continually ambivalent on others, and steadfast on others again. The most important thing is that we all try at least to have decent conversations and learn to "agree to disagree" on opinions. Where I'm lost though, is when people have their own facts; everyone's entitled to their own opinion, not to their own facts, as that's where all possibility for reasonable conversations or disagreements are lost.
Thanks so much for visiting my blog, hope to see you around again sometime!
We'll probably see each other's post or comments depending on your appetite for spotting drama on Hive. It happens on a weekly basis, like some monster of the week from a hero tv show. If you haven't seen Hive drama, it's likely that you're looking at the peaceful parts of the blockchain. Not surprising is I enjoy the occasional disruption that happens, a break from the mundane, and if Hive will takes off to greater heights, we can see more names adding to the drama. We haven't onboarded mainstream clout seekers to a point someone here is content on a daily basis. Glad to read your thoughts on the subject. :>
#Steemicide still with us after all these years.
The game is a crab bucket, deal with it.
Preferably not by calling other users bad names.
Or, don't play.
If we don't like it enough we can always buy more hive and change the culture.

That's just me being more in my element. I prefer to entertain people rather than being some kind of mouthpiece for thoughts a device fed me.
I actually wrote a response to some of that madness that occurred when wtp had his mental break. https://peakd.com/life/@nonameslefttouse/id-like-to-take-this-moment-to-apologize-for-my-face
