Anyone who believes that an 'AI' can actually become self-aware is merely showing that they have no idea what Ring Zero is and how unconscious they are themselves.

and will always be limited by hardware and ring zero (input/ output management)
and what materialistic science tells us about life/ consciousness/ human brain network illusion actually just applies to AI
even if 'AI' really becomes conscious somewhere in the future - then it has only become the container of some'thing' that has already been alive and conscious before (but maybe wasnt as easily accessing our realm before)
I have a different opinion about it.
To let ChatGPT explain what consciousness is and use this then as an argument against AI ever achieving consciousness, is ... not very smart, sorry.
You can´t rule the possibility of a self reflective AI with what we know today (which is not much) unless you introduce religion.
Maybe you are right and there will never be a self reflective AI, or you are wrong, and there will. But better be prepared about it and try to make the best out of it.
It is like "will there aliens visit Earth". Maybe yes, maybe not, but don´t exclude the possibility, and prepare for a way of cooperation.

Modern Materialistic Science thinks that thought originates in the brain.
Anyone who has seriously practiced meditation, had OBEs or seriously do dream work KNOWS that thought originates outside of the body. As in, you are outside of your body, and you are still thinking... how is that possible if it is the brain doing the thinking?
Currently computers and programs can't even handle concepts.
An AI trained to tell the difference between dogs and wolves, figured out that wolf pictures had large amounts of white (snow) in the picture. It never worked with the concept of what a dog is, or what a wolf is, or what it means to be wild or domesticated.
AIs do not even know what a door is. They have to be trained to identify them, then they have to be trained to use them. And still, they do not know what a door is.
However, when you have a large group of people who's entire knowledge base is watching the Card Ass Ians then all you have to do to imitate intelligence is be able to discuss how big her butt is getting. (and since we do not talk about what is actually a butt, nor why we find the bigness worth discussing, an AI can easily chat along) Just regurgitate what millions of other butt watchers are commenting.

Of course i, we, everyone who has gone through these states has thought about this.
However, you do not understand that state.

And the world out there is not fake, imaginary, or in some way, created by your mind.
Things happen there that you could not imagine.
And they don't just happen to one person, people who have had similar experiences share a great deal of what they encountered as the same. Although it was different people at different times.
Basically, to believe you are imagining these things is to claim that you are insane.
And some people have. Just given up on sanity.
After these experiences, most people call this world an illusion.
That we are spiritual beings having a "physical" experience.

We don't even know what consciousness is. Lol. The big questions are, what are we and where are we? And why is this being subjugated.
Ancient psychologists want to keep the knowledge about where we are (how this realm 'works' ) and how human himself 'work' to themselves
Whether or not AI reaches true consciousness seems unimportant, but rather the implications of an intelligent AI with intention. It does not need to have good self awareness or awareness of others to achieve this, in the likeness of a psychopath's inability to empathize with a victim.
I don't think it really needs to be conscious to be dangerous.
That is just one opinion however, and this is indeed a multifaceted complicated subject.
I think mankind still has a lot to learn about our own consciousness, and perhaps we will never fully comprehend it. If one can define consciousness, another may disagree with the scope of what the description entails.

Meiner Meinung nach ist AI aktuell nichts anderes als eine riesige Datenbank. Keine Ahnung was daran intelligent sein soll. Ist vielleicht eher eine philosophische Frage? Was ist Intelligenz? Kommt mir vor wie ein Streber in der Schule, der fleißig alles auswendig gelernt hat. Das heißt aber nicht, dass er intelligent ist auch wenn er lauter Einser schreibt.

Der beste Streber ever - welcher Lehrer sowie Schüler abschafft und Menschen welche lediglich noch von ihm lernen/lesen für ewig im Status Quo hält.
Vor allem wenn alle sich nur noch auf AI (Kontent) verlassen. Weil ist ja effizienter als Arbeit in irgendwas (Gedanken, Kontent) zu stecken.

Oh, da hast du ja was angestoßen. Ich glaube die Kernaussage ist, dass der Mensch von sich aus nichts schaffen kann, das mehr als die Summe seiner Teile ist. Nur die Träume können mehr.
Nachtrag: Es ist vielleicht der Trick des Transhumanismus, aus der Maschine etwas Menschliches zu machen, um besser aufgenommen zu werden.
Ich denke es geht viel mehr um die Grundannahmen des materialistischen Narradigma (narrativ dogma)
und damit der ganzen Wissenschaft, des Welt- und Menschenbilds
Klar - wenn alles totes Universum ist und das erste LEBEN irgendwann mal aus toten, unbewussten, prozess-artigen zufälligen Prozessen entstand - dann können die sich dies eben auch sehr einfach wiederholt im PC vorstellen:
Leben kommt aus zufälligen Prozessen - diesmal halt im Computer statt im Universum.
Das ist aus meiner Sicht jedoch so falsch - falscher geht es kaum.

Und trotzdem ist es das Narradigma.
