I was going to mention from your last video but got frustrated and forgot because the video kept stopping, was that here they put encrypted police radios in squad cars and now the number of police sirens has dropped dramatically. People can no longer listen to police calls on their scanners. The only way to find out what's going on in the city now is to go to the crime map or on a local social network blog unless it's such a bad event like a shooting that it's in the news the next day. I don't really mind given that I live across from a park and there's a highway about a block away so there's a lot of open space in front of me and I can about hear everything going on in the city late at night or early a.m, it's so quiet some nights I can hear if someone is shooting on the other side of town. In reality though the police determining to go to calls in silence can lead to a false sense of security if you live in a bad area, at least in my opinion.

Yeah that is a good point. Things have changed on that front. I have a machine radio, and you used to hear people talking on it – like some things back an forth – now its only plane traffic from small light aircraft mainly – or of course ships etc., people just have less ability to hear what is happening out there – there is the crime maps, as you say, which are useful – but of course, that is reliant on people updating them – or information being patched into them – you are right about a false sense of security alright – harder to cover things also, for stingers, who used to chase stories – maybe would a decrease in this after things being fully encrypted etc.,
That reminded me of back when my kids were little and I bought them some walkie talkies so they could run around the yard talking to each other. They picked up a phone conversation of a lady who use to rent in the house next to me talking bad about me....lol. She had a boyfriend who would stalk the crap out of me. No matter what I did or how quiet I was leaving he always knew I had left my house. One day coming back from the store after leaving through the basement door to try and derail him I was talking to the woman who lived up on the corner, all of a sudden he starts laughing from behind some bushes. I told her you hear him, he's over there laughing. She insisted on driving me a half a block back to my house. That was some crazy stuff. Finally after several complaints to the police they got the landlord to evict them.
