I saw my sister recently in the UK and noted how despite her full appreciation of the fact news is propaganda, she still had a Ukraine flag in her window with the words "we stand by Ukraine". I recall too that at one point she had a sign supporting the nurses while UK hospitals were empty and the elderly were being killed off in the care homes.

They are playing to our human instinct to do the right thing and support the right causes. But our perception of what is right is nothing more than a product now of a great machine which reaches its audience via a plethora of mechanisms. So today, even if you purposefully avoid all media you will still find yourself being swayed by the machine in any direction it chooses for you.
