Hace poco tiempo en Venezuela, país en el que vivo, apareció una ola de acusaciones por maltrato, acoso y abuso de las mujeres. Alguien debió haber encontrado la fuerza para confesar y publicar algo que le haya sucedido en sus redes sociales y todos empezaron a seguir su ejemplo. Pongámonos en contexto, latinoamérica está llena de machismo que está totalmente normalizado. A las mujeres se les ha enseñado desde pequeñas que ser acosadas por alguien o alguien mayor y especialmente con dinero es una gran suerte. Inclusive si la persona no te gusta o si eres...menor de edad. Este acondicionamiento psicológico ha generado casos de pedofilia en distintos ambientes de la vida cotidiana de muchas mujeres. En la escuela, en el trabajo, en la calle, en el metro, inclusive en el prestigioso y mundialmente famoso sistema de orquestas.

Not so long ago in Venezuela, the country I live in had appeared many allegations against abuse and harassment of women. I think someone had the courage to post her or his story on their social media and other people have decided to do the same thing. To be honest, the development of a woman in Latin America transcurs in a normalized sexist context. From a little age, girls learn that being harassed by someone older means that you are lucky (especially if he is rich). Even if you don't like this person or if you are minor...This psychological conditioning caused many cases of pedophilia in different aspects of the daily life of many women. At school, at work, at the street, in the subway, even in the prestigious and worldly famous Venezuelan system of orchestras.

No entraré en nombres y detalles de la historia. Si quieren pueden leerlo en éste link de CNN pero en cuentas resumidas una mujer joven acusó por las redes sociales a un escritor venezolano por estupro (un delito sexual que se produce cuando una persona, generalmente mayor de edad, mantiene relaciones sexuales con una persona adolescente que consiente la relación) Y a pesar de que la edad en Venezuela para el consentimiento es de 16 años y la joven tenía 16, el acto se llevo a cabo gracias a las manipulaciones abusivas del escritor de 35 años. Él confesó de haber cometido el crimen y desde ese entonces muchas plataformas (como prodavinci) terminaron su relación laboral con él. Así miamo muchas personas empezaron a escribirle por redes sociales expresando odio. La policia ya había empezado la investigación al respecto pero las redes sociales seguían muy activas. Por su respuesta en las redes, se notaba que era una persona muy insana e inmadura mentalmente ya que sus publicaciónes de disculpa eran esteticamente muy elaboradas, con aire de narcisismo y comentarios que mas bien reflejaban que el se sentía como "víctima" de todo este asunto. Poco tiempo despues de publicar sus disculpas el escritor se suicido.

Aquí es donde me pareció preocupante lo que veía en mis redes sociales. Algunas personas estaban muy sorprendidas, otros decían que el acto de suicidio fue un gesto aún mas narcisista y cobarde que sus publicaciones. Pero algunos, se regocijaban por su muerte y decían que más como él merecían morir. Estoy segura que muchos de los que han escrito mensajes de odio e indignación sobre el tema realmente no se preocupaban por la justicia (teniendo en cuenta de que la policia ya empezo a investigar y el escritor habia confesado todo). Algunos solo liberaban estres. Otros tienen ese complejo de "Kira" (Death Note) de creer que todas personas "malas" sin importar su crimen merecen morir. No creen que una persona podría recapacitar o que la ley cumplira con su deber.

After that, I have started to see bothering stuff appearing on my social media. Some people were shocked by the news, others said that the suicide was another narcissist act of a true coward. But some people...were delighted by his death and kept publishing posts saying "oh I wish more people like him would die". I am pretty sure that many people who showed hate and indignation about the girl's case weren't really worried about justice (I mean, the police already have started their investigation and the guy confessed). Some people just wanted to drain their stress out. Others have that "Kira" (Death Note) complex of believing that any "bad" person deserves to die. They don't believe that people can redeem themselves or that the law can accomplish their duty.

La propuesta de la serie Death Note es interesante, muestra que una persona con sentido de justicia infantil teniendo el poder de asesinar a los "malos" lo haría. Pero por suerte no existe tal poder. Sin embargo, existe la presión social.

La presión social es la influencia ejercida por un grupo social para lograr que una persona cambie sus actitudes, sus pensamientos o, incluso, sus valores. La también conocida como presión de pares es un problema que puede llegar a ser considerado como un trastorno de la personalidad.

Desconozco las causas del suicidio del escritor ni tampoco deduzco que su acto fue producto de la presión social. También se que su crimen no ameritaba la pena de muerte. Pero el caso me hizo tener algunas preguntas:

Si habría una persona falsamente acusada, con mente fragil y todas las redes le cayecen encima, podría soportar esta preción?
La sensación del poder que ofrecen las redes sociales puede ser peligrosa?

I don't know the causes of the writer's suicide, I also don't think that his action was caused by social pressure. I only know that legally his crime does not merit the death penalty. It's just that this case made me have some questions:

If someone with a fragile mind would be falsely accused, and all the social media would treat him with strong hate, could that person resist such pressure?
Could be dangerous the sensation of power that social media offers to people?

En mi opinion se debe acusar a los criminales y todos los casos de abuso a la mujer pero a la vez a la multitud que desconoce toda la informacion sobre los hechos no le corresponde ser ni el juez ni el verdugo. Por eso existen las leyes, proceso de investigación etc. Cuando estos fallan es cuando "se necesitan heroes". Pero quien necesita un heroe que solo castiga el mal porque quiere verse a si mismo como el bueno? Ademas de lo hipocritas que son las personas que acusan a los demas mientras que ellos también se han interesado en menores de edad. O tienen amigos, primos y tíos a quienes no les dijeron nada sobre su actitud ni los hayan demandado al notar actos criminales de cualquier índole. A esos "heroes" no los queremos, no los necesitamos.

In my opinion, all the crimes and crimes against women should be announced, but at the same time, the multitude which lucks of information, shouldn't be the judge or the executioner. That's why the laws and the process of investigation exists. When those fail, is when "the heroes" are "needed". But who needs a hero who only punishes the evil so he can say "I am the good one"? There are many two-faced people who accuse others while they also had an interest in minor girls. Or they those who have friends, cousins, uncles who made crimes and to whom they haven't said any word of accusation or have demanded them to the police. We don't want this kind of "heroes" we don't need them.

El crimen que haya hecho el escritor es horrible y es importante que las personas puedan expresar todos sus sentimientos y opiniones. Pero también es importante entender el gran poder que tienen las redes sociales ya que un gran poder conlleva gran responsabilidad. Pero en lo que creo más aun, es en que un gran poder puede corromper a cualqueira.

The crime that the writer has made is terrible, and it is necessary that people can express their feelings and thoughts. But it is also necessary to understand how important is the power of social media and that great power comes with great responsibility. Though I also believe that great power can corrupt anyone.

Mi pixel-art se llama "Bad People" (Personas malas) y representa a la "muerte" escogiendo a las personas que la sociedad en las redes sociales considera malas. Claro, es una exageración, no creo que esto pasa aún pero si pasa que las redes sociales generan odio a personas que nunca hayas conocido y no solo con personas, sino también con noticias falsas sobre países enteros a los que se consideran malos y se tienen debates sin tener mucha informacion al respecto.

My pixel-art is called "Bad People" and it represents the "death" choosing people who the social media society considers bad. I know it is an exaggeration. Things like that don't happen for now. But what do happens is that social media can generate haterade to people you never have met, and not only to people. Also to entire countries which are considered as bad and people have discussions for hours about things without having much knowledge about them.
