In this blog I want to touch three different subjects that are very closely related;
- Hive Power Up day
- The impact of Hive Power
- How to get insight on your stats
Why Power Up?
Powering up Hive on the Hive Blockchain is important for several reasons. First, it enables users to participate in governance by gaining Hive Power (HP), which allows them to vote on proposals and influence decisions that impact the community. Additionally, powering up Hive increases the potential for earning rewards from content creation and curation; the more HP a user has, the greater their influence on the distribution of these rewards, encouraging high-quality contributions.
But why wait for the 1st of the month to power up? I usually power up my liquid Hive on a daily basis. That way I can profit of higher Hive Power immediately.
A reason for postponing could be that you can earn nice Hive Badges for powering up.

The more you power up on the first day of a new month, the bigger your bee-badge will be.
They range from 10-50-100-500-1000.
Check out the @hivebuzz post that explains it all:
https://peakd.com/hive-122221/@hivebuzz/pud-202411
If you don't want to wait until the first of the month with your power up, you can also join the Hive Power Up Month.
The rules for this are simple:
- do a power-up of at least 1 HIVE or a 100% Hive Power post every day of the month
- do not powerdown
When you succeed, you will earn yourself the following badge:
I think I will go for this one next month.
My #HPUD Power Up of November
Because have configured a 100% Hive power payout for my posts and I power up regularly I just saved a little HP. I have done this by not powering up in the past week. By doing this I'm able to get the smallest bee badge.
But every little bit helps....
My power up was 33.5 Hive increasing my total Hive Power to 31,959!
Using your Hive Powers!
When you grow your account you can make more impact on Hive. I recently converted all of the HBD I had been collecting for a ling time into Hive when the price of Hive was $0.175 (blog)
This conversion resulted in quite a nice stake of 30,000+ Hive.
According to https://hivestats.io my 100% upvote with full 100% Voting Mana is 1.54 Hive which is equal to $ 0.28. This means that every 100% vote will give the author I'm voting on a $ 0.14 reward at 100% Voting Mana. And it will give me the same amount in curation rewards.
It also allowed me to give smaller upvotes that still reach the payout threshold of $0.02
My 10% upvote is enough for that now. I am working towards making my 5% upvote enough for a payout.
Some more stats
I already mentioned the https://hivestats.io website above. This site gives you a perfect insight in the statistics of your account (or the account of someone else). You can see your earnings in the past days, week, month, or even all time. You can also see your curation APR which is an indicator of how well you spend your Hive Power on curation.
As you can see mine is 9.19% at the moment which is fairly good I think.
I don't know all the ins and outs of it, but when I compare mine with the APR of that of other accounts, I'm doing quite well.
Although I do not know all the ins and outs of voting I do have the following tips:
Never leave your Voting Mana at 100%!
Your voting mana replenishes to 100%. When it is at 100% it will not do anything for you. Make sure you are always are below 100% to get the most out of your Hive power.
You can solve this issue by using https://hive.vote
Configure auto voting for when your Voting Mana is high!
You can configure Hive.Vote to cast votes automatically to a list of authors if your voting mana is above a certain percentage. I've configured it to auto vote on some authors when my voting mana is between 95 and 100%. This way I never waste my precious Hive Power.
I wrote a separate blog about this yesterday.
https://peakd.com/hive-148441/@friendlymoose/dont-let-your-voting-mana-drain-away-use-hivevote
With Hive.Vote you can select your own preferred authors, like me (add me to your Hive.Vote Fanbase).
But you can also add one of the curation accounts on Hive to follow their curation trail.
Here are some of the ones you could follow: @qurator @curie @odbc @curangel
Don't let your Voting Mana drop below 80%
This is something I learned back in the days when I just registered on Hive. I was told that your curation gets worse when your Voting Mana is below 80%. You do cast a lower vote when your voting mana is lower. And it also takes more time to get your voting mana up again.
I thought voting mana replenishes at the rate of 20% per day.
Check out your stats!
The PeakD interface for Hive has a really cool analytics page which gives you quite a good overview of the usage of your Hive Power: https://peakd.com/me/analytics
Apart from that you can also check out your ranking on https://hivebuzz.me/ranking
Select the table on the Hive Power column and search for your own account to see where you are on the list.
You can then set goals to get higher up in the list. I'm currently on the 522th spot (I assume this changes a lot today since more people have saved up for the HPUD and the Hive Power of many accounts will grow today.
Conclusions
Powering up is important. It shows you believe in the Hive ecosystem. It gives you increased power, higher curation rewards and it's a long term investment.
So what are you waiting for? Power up your liquid Hive!
