IMPROVING KIDS LEARNING ABILITY: THE POSSIBILITIES.

in Education2 years ago

Many parents do not care about teaching their child after classes. They believe they have learnt all they need to learn. Learning never ends, it's continual. Classroom is the primary source of learning. In order to improve a child's learning ability, extending learning outside the walls of the classroom will play a vital role in enhancing his learning.

Learning skill is something we learn to improve our academic abilities. Learning skills keeps us alert. Parents' motivation can help their kids be good learners. A big difference between a mom who helps her kid on how to process information, helps her child develop reading skills and vocabulary development is better than a mom who doesn't care about doing any of the aforementioned. Limiting children's learning to the classroom does not make them good learners.

WAYS TO IMPROVE KIDS LEARNING

  1. Through the use of the 4 C's of learning skills. These include: critical thinking, creative thinking, communication and collaboration. It is of necessity that kids learn these skills as it will enhance their easy way of decoding and understanding.

CRITICAL THINKING: This involves the use of our left brain to retain information, analysis and proffer solutions to a problem. Critical thinking is more about logical thinking, engaging kids in a discussion and argument, giving them a room to speak up on the topic of discussion will pave way to a better learning as it will help in their analyzing such topic to come to logical conclusion.

COMMUNICATION SKILL: It is a skill where one expresses him or herself verbally and non verbally through the use of cues, gestures, body language such as eye contact, moving of hands, nodding of head. There are many ways of improving kids' communication skills. Engaging them in a conversation will serve this purpose, it could be at school or at home, many of them feel connected to you will help them in listening closely and asking questions thus enhancing their learning ability.

COLLABORATION:
Working jointly with your kids toward intellectual effort is one way of improving their learning ability. Involving them in learning activities such as storytelling, interaction, problem solving, competition.

GAMES:
There are lots of kids that can help kids learn fast. Games like puzzles, scrambles, etc will help sharpen their memory and also increase their interest.

Just as we won't stop playing games until we win or achieve what we want to achieve in a particular game, the same way these memory sharpening games will help in their concentration level. I know a kid who reads for so long after completing a game. He will always say "I can't read right now if I don't play my scramble, it helps me stay put and concentrate. I will be distracted and can't read without playing it". Some will call that an addiction but I simply call that an alternative to arrive at a benefiting solution.
