Student Injuries & Learning

in Educationyesterday

Hi. In a previous education post, I talked about student illness and learning. When you are sick, you cannot function well and it impacts your learning and test performance.

A more extreme and unfortunate case is student injuries. Injuries can be from either sports or not from sports. As it is getting cold here in the Toronto area, ice slipping does happen. Injuries from ice slipping can be really severe.

Unfortunate Injuries & Not Being Able To Attend School In Person

Whether the injury is from sports or not, not being able to function physically really hurts for the student for learning and in everyday life. Some injured students may not be able to attend school in person. Instead they would have to catch up with the school lessons on their own with online courses, self-learning through provided school materials or use Youtube for self-learning.

When it comes to test taking, I am not sure if students would be able to take tests online instead of in-person. It may depend on the school, the teacher and the class. Online tests could be tricky as it is easier to cheat compared to in-person where there is a supervisor.

Catching Up

Due to not being able to attend school while injured, it is important for the student to catch up with school lessons. A good course should provide a course outline so students have an idea what topics are coming up next. Students can also ask teachers which topics they are going to cover in school. Teachers may provide notes in .pdf forms through an online sharing platform between teachers and students.

If self-learning at home is an issue, the student may want to hire a short term tutor. A tutor can provide additional support in filling in the gaps of self learning. Yes, you do have to pay a bit of money for tutors but it can be worth it for achieving certain grades for a course.
