Oh yes 100% I agree. I love watching Indie films including subtitled ones. I find them very enriching and authentic, laden with culture. There are some real gems to be found and the acting can be really good too. And if there's a French film or two, I find myself starting to attune again to the accent and vocab and relying less and less on the subtitles (I studied it in school many year ago so always a joy to get exposure again).
